The portrait of former Mayor Mariano Sanz Zabala is already owned by the City (29/11/2012)

The City Council is already in possession of the portrait of former mayor of Cartagena Mariano Sanz Zabala. Zabala's great-grandson, Adolfo Sanz and Town Planning, Environment and Heritage, Joaquin Segado, today signed the document by which the family of former Councillor gives this fine art at City Hall.

The decision to give the portrait that the painter Vicente Cartagena Ros took a few months ago.

Some time ago, reviewing the portraits of former mayors of Cartagena we realized that there were none of Mariano Zabala.

We had it at home, so we decided to cede, explained the family representative, Adolfo Sanz.

Mariano Sanz occupied the mayor of the City Council from 1899 to 1901.

Under his command were laid the foundation stone of the Palace Hall and work began Graduate School, the first in Spain.

The portrait is now in the Palacio de Molina waiting for technicians to check their status, even as Adolfo Sanz, is in very good condition. We've been hanging at home and has never been packed.

The Town Planning and Heritage, Joaquin Segado reiterated its gratitude to the family and assured that the painting will hang in the room as soon as possible Former Mayors of the Palace Hall, along with portraits of other former mayors.

In addition, the mayor has said that the family is considering donating to the City other objects that retain the former mayor, as l to shovel with which he laid the foundation stone of the Palace Hall.
