The City Council 1500 palm pruning to prevent leaf drop and dates to the street (16/08/2012)

The Department of Infrastructure rush since last June, the pruning of leaves and fruits of the withdrawal of nearly 1,500 copies of existing palm trees in various parts of the city.

The aim is to prevent the fall of palms and dates to the street, especially during the months of September and October in which are recorded episodes of strong winds.

As explained Councillor for Infrastructure, Francisco Espejo, work began to take place in time, so they were undertaken by local brigade personnel and service contracts Parks and Gardens in the morning, without overtime , since this year as cost-saving measure, had decided to eliminate the hiring of these tasks to a specialized company.

Pruning mature palms dry and started around June 24, in the streets of the Eixample where there are about 300.

Subsequently conducted at 130 Alameda palms and 173 of the Calle Real, which was complemented by a phytosanitary treatment against the red palm weevil.

During these days the jobs are located in the 700 existing palm trees on the promenade guasintonas Dock Square and the old CIM.

The work is scheduled for completion by September, also with a review of pruning and plant health treatment in the 130 palm trees of the square of the Heroes of Cavite, the 30 of the Sea Wall and seven in the Square Lake.
