SPCT urges the City of Cartagena to collect property tax from the property owned by the Church (15/05/2012)

There are times to keep anachronistic and unjust privileges.

In this sense it is time that the City of Cartagena copper property tax of all buildings dedicated to religion, or owned by any religious order, generalizing their collection as occurs with other privately owned properties.

In this regard, we propose amending the Agreement between the Spanish State and the Holy See, which means that in the Fiscal governing property tax, the City of Cartagena, is included in Article 5.C exemption from payment of tax Real Estate Associations all Confessional.

c) the Catholic Church, under the terms provided in the Agreement between the Spanish State and the Holy See on economic issues, from January 3, 1979, and those of non-Catholic religious associations legally recognized under the terms established in the respective cooperation agreements concluded under the provisions of Article 16 of the Constitution.

The assets owned by various religious orders in Cartagena is broad, making it necessary to publish the inventory of such properties, these are subject to review by the General Directorate of Cadastre dependent on the SATA and turning a receipt IBI.

The economic crisis can not be used only to cut social rights of citizens, but should be used to correct excesses and privileges such as exemption from property tax for these properties.
