The negligence was the main reason for traffic accidents in 2011 (30/04/2012)

They show that the accident in the town has maintained a downward trend, there have been 2,093 accidents in 2011, 202 incidents less than last year, representing a decrease of 8.8 percent, although the fleet Cartagena has increased by 635 vehicles coming this year to 145,253 vehicles.

The main cause of accidents in urban areas was neglect (36 percent), followed closely by not respecting the right of way (35 percent), resulting in assaults between vehicles, the accident most often repeated, followed by shocks, scope and scrapes, especially at roundabouts, so that 71 percent of accidents are caused by these two causes.

As for the accidents that have resulted in injury to citizens, have increased by 37, from 744 in 2010 to 781 in 2011.

Of these, there have been 7 accidents resulting in death, 3 more than last year, and 30 accidents resulting in serious injury, one less than in 2010, while accidents with minor injuries have increased by 35, with a total of 1,102 wounded.

The pedestrian violations are also reflected in the report, with 145 accidents in 2011, representing an increase of 23 incidents from the year 2010, 122 violations occurred.

The routes of the city in which there are more traffic accidents is three, Paseo Alfonso XIII (108 accidents), including Captain Ramon y Cajal and Ripoll, where the vehicle capacity is of special consideration, the Gran Via de la Manga (68 accidents), mainly by the density of traffic that occurs during the months of July and August, and Calle Ramon y Cajal (58 accidents).

In addition to the sections of high concentration of accidents, there are specific points where the most accidents, the main roundabouts and roundabouts of the city, chief among them the Severo Ochoa's Square, with 28 accidents last year.

The 2093 incidents that have occurred in the municipality of Cartagena in 2011, to a mean of 174.41 accidents per month and the months of February, March, April, May, June, July and August, which is exceeded this average.

Depending on the day of the week in which the accident occurred, it appears that at weekends, by lowering the activity of the city, reducing the movement of vehicles passing through our streets, so that accidents have also declined considerably , Sunday being the only day in which they were produced, per day, less than 300 accidents.

Another significant finding is that the greatest number of casualties coincides with the peak hours of the city and, therefore, increased vehicular traffic, emphasizing mainly the time slot between 12 and 2 of medidoía afternoon.
