Actions of control and surveillance of water quality in port areas (30/03/2012)

The Governing Council approved an agreement between the Ministry of the Presidency and the Port Authority to promote the development of control measures and monitoring of water quality in the port area of ​​the city of Cartagena, aimed at protecting the aquatic environment .

This inter-coordination tool and intended to last for two years, will address common criteria with the overall management of the quality of port waters in accordance with the principles underlying the Water Framework Directive, adopted in 2000, and with all international regulations, national, regional and local levels.

Exchange tools will be developed criteria to identify and reduce environmental impacts port with the intention of achieving better prevention, control and management of environmental risks and adapt the activity of the ports to the demands and requirements of environmental legislation.

Through this agreement, the Department will design a network and a sampling plan defining the frequency, station selection, methodologies and parameters.

After obtaining the results, develop a database for interpretation and reporting at intervals of six months, which will determine the chemical status and ecological potential of port waters.

The Port Authority will participate in the activities of sampling for environmental monitoring of the quality of port waters, and sent to the Department the results of chemical analyzes of samples collected.
