The Rescue Coordination Centre (SCC) in Cartagena, the Ministry of Development, coordinated the rescue, assistance, or search in the 105 357 people attended maritime activities in 2011.

This CCS attended 95 related emergencies Salvage, 8 with maritime safety and other services (recovery of drifting objects, helps ships at anchor, etc.) and 2 with the protection of the marine environment.

The total amounted to 91 vessels involved, of which 52 corresponded to emergencies involving pleasure boats, 13 merchant ships and 2 fish.

The remaining 24 cases were related to other ships or floating structures.

Performances in Spain

Salvage has 21 Rescue Coordination across the Spanish coast covering the area of ​​marine salvage which the International Maritime Organization has assigned to Spain.

The sea surface rescue in Spain is 1.5 million km ², equivalent to three times the national territory.

The 21 centers coordinated the rescue, assistance, or search for 13,292 people (an average of 36 a day) in 5576 served maritime emergencies in Spain during 2011.

The total number of vessels involved amounted to 3,885 compared to 3,552 in 2010.

The remaining 611 cases were related to other types of ships and floating structures.
