The tradition of glass in the hands of the youth (20/01/2012)

Past, present and future.

The Glass Museum of St. Lucia collects the three time periods.

From cruets of the nineteenth century, twentieth cups and glasses to glass bottles with asses, in full development, is what can be seen daily in the building this morning visited the Mayor Pilar Barreiro, along with the council of Decentralization Nicolas Bernal Angeles and Maria Jose Roca and those responsible for the Association of Santa Lucia Glaziers, Manuel Riquelme and Francisco Garcia Romero.

Glass tradition is more alive than ever.

Since the center opened last year, the facilities and artists pass daily, for several days, working there by pupils in the course of glassblowing, which organized the Local Development Agency and Employment.

After interest in the works of young artists, Barreiro has highlighted the importance of this type of education to avoid losing an old tradition: It is a unique place in Spain.

They are training young people without work in markets like this that are in high demand.

In addition to the pit, the Glass Museum has an exhibition area where visitors can see the evolution that followed the completion of these handcrafted pieces.

This is possible thanks to donations like Angosto García-Glass, which covers almost all the windows on the first floor of the building.

GUIDED TOURS

The intention of the association is to promote the museum glassmakers while offering a course after another.

According to one of the leaders, Manuel Riquelme, glaziers want to continue offering training courses and other open to the general public because l for processing and modeling of glass involves a lot of curiosity among those who dedicate themselves to art.

In addition, building managers plan and organize guided tours of schools and associations, and the museum will become the technological center of the glass in the Region of Murcia.

About 20 artisans are part of the Glaziers' Association, which promotes this trade across the region showcasing and selling their work in carving, engraving or glass blowing.

On the other hand, when asked by reporters, the mayor has responded to questions about the presence of Cartagena in FITUR, the opening of shops every day and increased working hours of civil servants.
