A day for reflection and action (25/11/2011)

Citizens and political representatives have expressed their firm rejection of the International Day against violence against women with a concentration at the doors of the Administration Building where they have distributed more than two thousand flowers of paper with the telephone 016

Cartagena has been thrown out on the International Day for the eradication of gender violence, a date not only for reflection but also for action, to repeat with greater force if it is firmness in rejecting the abuse and state that domestic violence is not something for them but commits the government and the entire society, every day of the year.

This was expressed by the spokesman of the government team, Francisco Espejo, in reading the Manifesto against abuse, which has been the central event of the day.

One hundred people have been concentrated at the gates of the administrative building on Calle San Miguel, including the Municipal Corporation councilors, representatives of women's associations, and many travelers who have not hesitated to join the rally organized by the departments of Women and Youth.

At twelve o'clock has held a minute's silence in memory of the 59 women killed so far this year by their partners or former partners, who are also 59 families shattered, as expressed by Susana Ferreira, a volunteer of this Day in the reading of the Manifesto. On this day, he said, must be present not only women who have spent years subjected to physical violence, but those suffering psychological abuse, which undermines the inside and attentive cruelly against their dignity.

The manifesto has invited all those who reject violence and exercise are not complicit with our silence.

Also, some words have been directed toward children, often exposed to abuse suffered by their mothers and are also indirect victims of domestic violence.

Finally, it culminated with a reading of hope, to bring to light the testimony of people who come out of this situation and have felt the support of society to say enough is enough and build a new life.

FLOWERS AND CANDLES 59 2000

After reading the manifesto, fifty women have started a march to the Palace Hall displaying the banner Stop the violence, led by the councilors of the government team.

At the same time, the volunteers of the Department of Women and Youth have been distributed throughout the morning more than two thousand flowers to passers-paper, which were accompanied by the phone from abuse 016.

These flowers have been developed by young people in a workshop that has been developed at the Youth Resource Centre during the month of November.

Among the activities they have completed this International Day against Drug Abuse, the councilors of Women and Youth, and Ruth Clara Collado Heredia, visited two of the 16 institutes that have commemorated this day. The San Isidoro Institute of Sorrows s, six short films have screened on child abuse and the lobby has been decorated with posters from the center against domestic violence prepared by the students themselves.

Also the Institute Jiménez de la Espada has dedicated a special performance in the center courtyard where the students themselves have been an abusive situation and have addressed some words of rejection of violence.

The students were dressed in black and shown in their own clothes a message: Stop violence against women.

Finally, they lit candles in memory of 59 victims of abuse this year.

RED CARD from Abuse

Throughout the day will remain on display at the San Miguel street banner with pictures of the Red Card campaign Take the abuse, in which hundreds of citizens participated.

The banner has been produced in the workshop organized by the Program Banners Implica2 of the Youth Council for two weeks has walked the streets inviting everyone to show their disgust.
