La Virgen de los Remedios back to the cemetery of Saint Lucia (25/10/2011)

The image of the Virgen de los Remedios, which has been restored by the Municipal Restoration Workshop of the City of Cartagena, is back after 15 year absence, the church of Santa Lucia Cemetery, where you can admire during the Mass of All Saints and All Souls to be held in the coming days.

The size and set in place the main altar, will be presented to the media on Wednesday October 26.

The presentation will be at 10.30 hours and will be attended by the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, and the Councillor responsible for the Municipal Cemetery, Nicholas Angel Bernal.

The image of the Virgen de los Remedios dates from 1786 and is the work of José Esteve Bonet Valencian sculptor, a contemporary artist Francisco Salzillo, who was a sculptor to Charles IV, and it belongs to a very large part of the sculptural production that preserved in Valencia, including important works in the cathedral.

The size remains almost intact restored the original materials: wood, oil and gold at the base.

The restoration works have focused on removing and repainting metal elements that had been added to over time.

The work, detailed and thorough, has uncovered subtle elements that once seemed like a few small flowers in the back of the robe of the Virgin.

Also, the wings were rebuilt one of the three angels that decorate the carving, which once was restored plaster base and now has refined wood pulp with a much stronger and resilient.

The Virgin is the second image of the Chapel of Remedios is restored in the municipal workshop, after the work to be performed with the stature of Christ.
