The Government delegate visits the new tug Salvage "Sar Mesana," docked at the Port of Cartagena (23/08/2011)

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, visited this morning accompanied by the Head of the Marine Rescue Centre in Cartagena, Miguel Belmonte and the Harbour Master office, Diego Quevedo, the new tug Salvage, "Sar Mesana," which entered service in late July and these days stop in the Port of Cartagena.

The tug "Sar Mesana," replaces "VB Antarctic," and is the third in a series of 3 tugs built in the shipyards of Boluda Maritime Corporation.

The other two vessels of similar characteristics are the "Sar Gavia", which operates in Galicia.

and "Sar mast," which covers the area of ​​the Alboran Sea.

The Ministry of Public Works has invested a total € 37.8 M for the three vessels, of which 12.6 correspond to the "Sar Mizzen."

Technical

The "Sar Mesana" is equipped with sophisticated navigation and communications systems.

This new ship has a length of 39.70 meters, pulling power of 60 tons and a range at cruising speed, 6,000 miles.

The technical and operational characteristics of the new tug makes it very versatile as it is built to address a number of diverse missions, among which stand out: the towing vessels, support ships in trouble, fire fighting and Rescue castaways.

To the rescue, the tug also has a rigid dinghy.

Among its many functions, the new ship has an outdoor fire service.

It features two fire-extinguishing with a total capacity of 3,000 cubic meters per hour, at a pressure of 14 bars, with a sprinkler system for creating a water curtain to protect the superstructure and the deck, thus enabling a closer to areas of damage.

Other means of Salvage acting in Alicante and Murcia

Strategic basis for the rescue and combating pollution of Cartagena: supporting logistics infrastructure and the provision of human and material equipment to operations that require special intervention teams located in these rules.
