By 1978, began his research on industrial areas of the city and in 1984 participated in the Mission Photographique the French government to document the landscape changes.

It has subsequently developed similar projects in different European cities.

His works can be seen today in museums around the world. "Photographer of the urban landscape 'and' architect photographer 'are two of the adjectives that often accompany Gabriele Basilico (Milan, 1944), whose work has been seen as a succession of' photographic journeys'.

He has focused his work in making a peculiar commentary on architecture, urbanism, growth of cities and especially to its transformation, its movement, its diversity.

Away from the topical images and fashion models, their proposal, personal and risky, is the difficulty for many who ventures into the urban landscape but it does so voluntarily images that play with the post-Romantic aesthetic heritage and those who are content to praise the findings of contemporary architecture, shapes, materials and scale.

THE WORK

The excellent technical quality, joins a domain Basilico total possibilities of the medium, a very precise eye when addressing architectural issues, and a surprising and unusual knowledge of the key architecture, which allows you to discuss seamlessly with today's leading architects .

The peculiarity is its tendency to dwell on the hopeless kind of confusing moments of anonymity, mixture, representing the outskirts of the city, these outputs will soon be the center of the city.

Images almost interchangeable, which we identify as part of the growing cities, they become subjects of his photographs: ghostly modern buildings, as they grow their sidewalks and streets built, but viewed from the back appear to be emerging from the void, a wasteland wilderness estates of terraced buildings, on steep slopes, tiny buildings with skyscrapers.

Moments of shock and contrast, typical of Milan, Berlin, Trento, Oporto and Valencia, but also a historic city like Santiago de Compostela or imagine a landscape that is clean and cold as the Silicon Valley, the valley called the silicon the abundance of related industries with high technology, Basilico's photographs show us visually contaminated by wires, utility poles and wood materials specific to the sprawl of slums in cities are traditional.
