Nearly half a million people have visited the Teatro Romano, after three years of opening (11/07/2011)

Over 427,000 people have toured the museum and the Roman Theatre in Cartagena since opening on July 11, 2008.

The recovery project conducted by the architect Rafael Moneo has increased expectations of visitors to the monument conceived as a journey through time, culminating in the bleachers imposing unexpected appearance of the Theatre.

The visitors to the Museum records indicate that 74% of visits had an individual character compared to 26% were performed in groups.

These percentages reveal how far the project has aroused great interest in the general public, as the challenge of most museums is to be able to attract that individual visit, compared to captive audience that is usually always the largest (visits group) in most museums.

As for the origin of visitors, 66% are domestic visitors of which 18% local and regional, and 48% from other provinces.

Among the highlights domestic visitors from Madrid (57%), Comunidad Valencia (17%), Andalusia and Catalonia.

Foreign visitors have meant 34%, especially English (48%), Germans (15%) and France (8%), although, at the end of June 2011 the number of foreign visitors had been 60% compared to national, growing almost 30% compared to June 2010.

The Theatre Museum of Cartagena has become to today an important cultural landmark and tourist on a national and European level, as evidenced by the Grand Prix of Europa Nostra, who received last year in the conservation category, supported by European Commission Culture.

The jury particularly appreciated the integration of the monument in the urban fabric and its proper conservation and exhibition of educational and cultural purposes.

The European distinction was accompanied by a prize money has financed the design of a promotional campaign to strengthen the identity of the monument, with the slogan A JEWEL OF ANTIGÃœEDAD, LEADING emphasizing the almost ASNIC impressive two masterpieces of architecture that still remains from different periods are integrated in an exemplary manner.

Summer Workshop at the Museum of Roman Theatre in Cartagena

Come to Carthage

This summer, the Roman Theatre Museum offers the possibility of building a Roman city in a conditioned space for this purpose, the museum education classroom.

This is a fun workshop in which over a smaller model will have the opportunity to build the city of Carthago Nova.

A guide who will show the keys to the building of the ancient Roman city and the tour of the museum and the Roman Theatre.

The workshop aims at knowledge of ancient Carthago Nova from the construction of a model of 63 pieces, whose union forms an ideal Roman city walls, cemeteries, government buildings and religious buildings show, and so on.
