The Roman Senate grants Cartagena Murada Double Corona Enrique Nieto (12/06/2011)

The painter and writer Enrique Nieto received Cartagena Double Corona Murada early Saturday at a dinner in honor of the Roman Senate Cartagena parties.

The distinction was awarded every two years in an intimate ceremony attended by a hundred people, whose celebration was presided by the Minister of Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz, and was present also the rector of the UPCT, Felix Faure, a former student of honoree.

Enrique Nieto, a member of the Board of the UPCT appreciated the recognition and emotional moments devoted to the present among those who were his family, his wife, his children, grandchildren and friends, and a broad representation of the festive Carthaginians and Romans.

The emotional speech by Enrique Nieto made a journey from his childhood to his family's active participation in the festivities.

The event was present a large representation of different courses for 37 students accompanied by teachers in the classroom.

Moving speech by Enrique Nieto:

"My first words must be of gratitude for the honor of the Roman Senate for me. I was awarded a prize, The Double Corona Murada, and I'm proud, absolutely overjoyed to receive it, for two main reasons: first Instead, it comes from you, men and women who, with his enthusiasm and dedication, have managed to raise the party that has already become an important hallmark of this city. And secondly, because such recognition given to me in Cartagena, where I was born and lived most of my life, where are my roots and great references that have shaped my own career. Nothing can make me happier than the attention that you have had with this artist who writes, this teacher and away from the classroom.

It is true that, for years, do not live here, but I can say I've always maintained my relationship with Cartagena.

One of my sons with his family, my sisters and nephews and many friends always stay in my city and it usually come.

In addition, for five years, I am a member of the Board of the University and shown here in all sincerity that none of the charges and commissions that have developed in my life has been so excited as this, because he has returned to the social fabric Cartagena, me included and involved in exciting project, and allows me to work with a fact that I consider of utmost importance for this region.

Join the Polytechnic University of Cartagena is a real honor for me.

Furthermore, when the holidays arrive Carthaginians and Romans, I am just one of you.

My son William, grandchildren and his family belong to the Legion 'triumvirate of Cartagonova', my sisters and nephews' Mars and Minerva ", as my dear brother, Miguel Fernández Albaladejo, recently deceased, whom we remember with affection tonight because he would have enjoyed this time as myself.

Every year when I come to camp to enjoy the celebrations, greeting dozens of old friends and students that make me appreciate the virtue I find most remarkable in the Carthaginians and Romans, that one of those students may be a doctor and another a mechanical, there are people with different political ideas that march together and feel the colors of their legions, or of his men, with equal enthusiasm.

Unlike other demonstrations of this kind, which occur even in this region, our parties are able to gather in a group for training people, ideas and status are quite distinct.

You put on their beautiful costumes, and immediately, everyone is equal, a partner with whom to have some fun, with whom to share the illusion of their group.

That, plus fun, means something far more profound: as friendship, tolerance, unity to do something together, regardless of any social conditioning, and is a valuable feature of these parties and not others.

And, as an old Cartagena, allow me to tell you the Carthaginians and Romans were necessary.

It seemed that the only party of our people was their precious Easter, but these celebrations are involved in the natural and religious penance was necessary that our city could dedicate a few days to Bacchus, Eros and other gods more fun.

That's what you have done and all we are fans of these gods we are very grateful

Perhaps some who are here today do not know me.

I'll make a brief biography of mine: I was born on the streets of Lizana, 25, 3, in a family quite simply, was a disciple of painters Luzzy Ramón Alonso and Enrique Gabriel Navarro, beloved deceased.

I have dedicated my life to painting and teaching.

As a tip, I got the chance to write for newspapers and magazines, and there are some books with my name.

I have four children and ten grandchildren.

This is materially everything important.

And now I am here before you, dear friends, who have given me their prize.

That street iCUE Lizana, who was under the pier, which was thrown by the door busaera La Villa, who played the guerrillas in the mountains of Cantarrana getting some hit in the head is speaking tonight magic to believe that dreams can come true.

It has been said to give me this award because I've taken the name of Cartagena for any site that you've been, and because I worked whenever I have asked the Carthaginians and Romans Festival.

And so, and will remain so forever.

But I also believe it gives me something else.

It gives me for not having changed, have always tried to be the same in substance, for wanting to keep me, against all odds, I learned many years ago the people around me here, very near the place where we gather tonight.

My birth, adolescence and youth, lived in the environment of my family, my street and my city, formed my view of life in a way so definitive that neither the world of art, culture and education I came to stop after or any liability which has been taking, I have never changed.

If I am somewhat supportive, it is because I learned as a child, when in the darkness of war, no one had almost nothing and even that was able to share with whom he still had less.

If someone asks me to do something to help, I will always do because I saw my parents and my neighbors, poor people, but always ready to care for an elderly, to fix the electricity of a house that had been without power , to provide a staircase, all things that seem incredible today, but there were everyday because people are helped to survive.

If you have always respected the human being as such, regardless of their background, social status, race or color, is because those people who surrounded me in the street Lizana, school of Mercy, in the plaza of El Lago, taught me to do so.

And I will give an example: it is said that when I write, I scathing and harsh criticism of politicians, and yet, always respect and treat them well as individuals.

So I learned when I was a youngster: people and their lives are untouchable, worthy of all respect as they do not harm others.

Your facts, in politics, are subject to criticism, but not their private lives.

Perhaps you believe that today give his award to Enrique Nieto, the painter, the writer in the newspapers, the teacher, but not so: today you give that prize to the kid, skinny, bad color, born in Cartagena a lot of years ago.

From somewhere, everyone knew me and are no longer seen this time and say, 'look, to Quique, the son of Fine and Henry the bartender, have given a great reward,' and rejoice.

Is over.

I want to dedicate this award to the person who has made all this dream possible: to my wife, my children's mother, Victoria.

Without it nothing would have been possible, and you know nothing of me or I would have given this recognition, I urge you, thank you very, very deeply. "
