Cartagena investment excels in water and responsible water consumption (08/06/2011)

Investment in water infrastructure of Cartagena has been the largest in the history of the Region of Murcia and miles of collectors could link the city with Valencia, as indicated by the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, this morning at the opening Summit Water AEAS (Spanish Association of Water Supply and Sanitation), home from 8 to 10 June, the Auditorium and Convention Center of Cartagena.

Companies, institutions and industry experts discuss the current water situation, both consumption and responsible use, such as management and supply of this resource, a precious commodity in the Region and in Cartagena, where 97% of water consumed has gone through treatment plants, explained the mayor.

The consumption of Cartagena, conscious about responsible use, is 122 liters per person per day, a figure that is below the national average for domestic consumption, 130 liters per person per day.

This was explained by the general director of Aquagest Murcia, José Albaladejo, at the opening of the congress, which was attended by the president accompanied AEAS, Gistau Roque, Secretary General, José Carbonell, the Technical director, José de Castro .

In the XXXI annual event will discuss technical matters of supply, water supply and management as a public service, but also try to guide the city in some general interest questions as: Do we pay what it's worth the water?

Do we need desalination?

Is Spain at the forefront of a sustainable water services and quality?

Do you have information on the city water cycle?

What does the new water infrastructure plan Cartagena?

The last day of the conference will present the survey t ates on the price of water, a commodity that is expensive, as the president of AEAS, Roque Gistau, for the cost of procurement processes, including collection infrastructure, desalination or transport, storage and treatment processes.

In the latter, Gistau has ensured that drinking water is the product that passed health inspections worldwide.

Parallel to this event takes place the Water Technology Exhibition, a showcase to present the latest innovations in systems, equipment and related products sector.

Spain has some water services first line comparable to the best in the world.

The companies supply and sanitation in our country use the best available technologies and advance every day to provide a better and more efficient service to citizens, who understand the need for socially and environmentally sustainable management of water but must assume that this implies greater economic effort that must be reflected in the price.

Domestic consumption is 130 liters / capita / day.

We have a capacity in the distribution depots of 21 million m3, the use of two-day supply.

In The Region of Murcia the city paid 2.37 euros per m3 of water.

DESALACIÃ "N: desalination 40 years ago in Spain, which now has a production capacity of 1,100 hm 3 annually, of which 70% is sea water plants, and 30% of brackish water. This amount -puts us on a world stage with a total capacity of 30,000 hm 3-year in third place, behind Saudi Arabia and the U.S., Australia and Algeria and upcoming positions. The experience of four decades of work has made desalination Spanish companies regarding this technology.

CARTAGENA: Hydraulic Infrastructure Plan.

Cartagena is marked by difficult water conditions: lack of resources, low rainfall and clear torrential regime for its arid climate, which historically has resulted in the continuous search for sources of supply.

The bringing of the river in 1945 gave Taibilla solution to supply most of Cartagena and Murcia, now supported by the Tajo-Segura and the desalination of seawater.

Similarly, the historic flooding has forced the diversion of channeling as the boulevards that lead to the expansion of the city.

Review the Draft General Plan Municipal de Cartagena Management will set the future urban development of Cartagena and has highlighted the need to plan the needs of urban infrastructure supply, sanitation, stormwater drainage and treatment.

Management Planning M unicipality decided to draft a Hydraulic Infrastructure Plan of Cartagena (Peiho) to define the necessary actions so as to make a diagnosis of the operation of existing infrastructure according to the new requirements and needs.
