The environmentally friendly vehicle 'Hannibal' competing in the Shell Eco-Marathon (25/05/2011)

A team from the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT) competes with the prototype 'Hannibal' in the prestigious international competition Shell Eco-marathon, a test of ecological cars that brings together over 200 European teams.

The competition begins tomorrow at the Lausitz circuit in Germany, where the goal is to travel the farthest distance using the least amount of fuel.

'Hannibal', who participated in the last edition of the Solar Race Murcia, is designed and built by students, professors and researchers UPCT in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

The prototype is powered by a combustion of bio-ethanol.

To manufacture the chassis, the students have used carbon fiber.

The profile of the vehicle design has been defined based on aerodynamic studies to minimize frictional losses and turbulence, as the career objective is to reduce energy consumption with alternative fuels to oil, says Antonio Guerrero, a professor of UPCT.

The team composed UPCT is about fifteen people.

In Germany, two other students moving Manuel Pérez Fernández de Bobadilla and Emanuel Thomas.
