Report 15 drivers in the campaign on driving distractions (19/04/2011)

Local police, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) has been carried out between 4 and 10 April the Special Campaign of control and surveillance of mobile phone use and driving distractions with the aim of reducing accidents.

In the seven-day duration of the campaign s and have controlled a total of 2047 vehicles and have issued a total of 15 complaints.

Of all vehicles reported, mainly in the urban area, 1763 were passenger cars and 284 were transport professionals.

Almost all of the distractions reported, 3 and 6 passenger commercial transport vehicles, are due to mobile phone use while driving.

In addition there have been other 4 complaints handling of the browser, and 2 others because of other behaviors that cause distraction as the consultation document at the wheel.

According to the DGT, dial the phone, answer a call, to handle the browser, lighting a cigarette or adjusting the radio are some circumstances in which to multiply the risk of an accident.

Moreover, Security Law Article 65 makes it an

serious violation: Driving manually using mobile phone, browser or any other device that decreases the binding constant attention on driving.

The breach of these regulations is punishable as a serious offense punishable by a fine of 200 euros and the withdrawal of 3 points from driving.
