Development awards the project of the Red Blood Cartagena Railway (08/04/2011)

This action includes the adequacy of access to high speed rail and station rehabilitation and reform and improve urban environment

The Government delegate, Rafael González Tovar, today announced that the Ministry of Development, through ADIF has awarded the drafting of the basic platform of the Red Blood via Railway (RAF) in the city of Cartagena, in the face to adapt to the advent of high speed to the city.

González Tovar added that the contract is the necessary step for the subsequent procurement phase of construction of the RAF in Cartagena, and consists of both the draft referred to in previous informative studies conducted by the Ministry of Development.

The budget allocation amounted to 1,130,500 euros (including VAT) and the project will be conducted by the joint venture formed by Prointec, Arenas & Asociados, Engineering Design and Mecs.

The basic design - added the delegate of the Government - including specifications for satellite platform, signaling installations, security and communications, while ensuring the protection of the environment and establishing the necessary corrective measures.

The investment made in the wording is funded by the Society Cartagena High Speed, created following the agreements signed between the Ministry of Development, the Government of the Region of Murcia, ADIF and the city of Cartagena, to the remodeling of the RAF Cartagena, which allow high speed input and, therefore, urban reform and improvement of the railway environment.

Blood Red Cartagena Railway

The agreement of the Company Cartagena High Speed ​​RAF Cartagena contemplates a path of 1.4 km that goes from the current 502 pk conventional line-Cartagena Chinchilla to the station.

Among the most prominent are foreseen as follows:

• Adaptation of rail access to the parameters and high-speed services.

• Remodeling of the present railway station Cartagena, depression of the beach roads, adaptation to underground rail corridor and improving accessibility.

We define a new configuration of the season with two distinct areas:

-An area consisting of 4 tracks and platforms of 200 m in length.

"A parallel to the previous area with 2 way and a platform for trains of 400 m in length.

The route will pass through the same place of the present railway line, buried over 1,130 m.

This will need to project a variant and a temporary station in order to maintain the existing rail traffic, which will not be affected during the construction phase.

European funding

Within the Community Support Framework 2000-2006, the total aid granted by the European Union's new High Speed ​​Line Madrid-Castilla La Mancha-Valencia-Murcia region reached EUR 575 million euros from the Fund Cohesion, 125 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 48 million euros from TEN-T funds.

For 2007-2013, the Cohesion Fund within the Cohesion Fund Operational Programme 2007-2013 ERDF co-part of the online platform with 726 million euros.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Operational Programme of Valencia 2007-2013 stretch platform co-Limit Elche Murcia and the installation of track and facilities Xativa-Valencia section with 160 million euros.

Also, Operational Programmes of Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia 2007-2013 and 2007-2013 co-financed by various sections of the platform and the supply and installation of track and facilities for an amount of 249 euros and 68 million respectively.

The European Investment Bank also participates in the financing of this project.
