The Requiem Mass by John Rutter, on the eve of Holy Week (05/04/2011)

The City of Cartagena, through the cycle Sound Space 2011, offered on Friday April 8 at St Florentina de La Palma and Sunday 10 at the Church of Santo Domingo military's own city, two concerts in which you can hear the Requiem Mass by the British composer John Rutter.

As is traditional before Easter, sound spaces will offer a concert of sacred music, this year focused on the figure of the contemporary British composer John Rutter, who is emerging as one of the great discoveries of classical music in recent years.

The ease of listening in their work, away from formalism contemporary, and the emotionality of his musical discourse, have become since the 80's to their compositions in one of the favorite classical music audiences.

The concert will be offered twice, so that the City of Cartagena promotes cultural offerings outside the city of Cartagena in the town councils.

The musicians in charge of setting up the score will be the countertenor John Smith, the Cartagena Chamber Orchestra and choir from Totana, Vox Musicalis, all under the baton of a young promising music director in Spain, Tomeu Catalan Quetglas.

To meet the demands instrumental score, the orchestra added to the usual strings of its workforce by strengthening wind instruments (oboes, flutes, horns, etc..) As well as harp and percussion, to reach the figure of 30 instrumentalists, who joined the other singers on stage bring about 60 people.
