Bethlehem Gopegui shows teens how to say no to resignation (24/03/2011)

The protagonist of the novel I want to be punk, Mandarache Award finalist for Young Readers, Gopegui Bethlehem, is a teenager, as were the hundreds of young people who have gathered today in the auditorium of the UPCT to attend Encounters with ultimate authority of the award, organized by the Youth Council.

With this psychological portrait of a teenager, Gopegui has clear intentions, trying to get across to young people who do not have to resign, but have an attitude of dealing with things that happen in life, and at this stage of adolescence is when produced the first shock.

And precisely the role that music plays in nature, as in this case, the punk, is to represent the theme of non-resignation and struggle.

Asked if today's young people know a style of music that prevailed in the mid 70's, the author says that today, thanks to the internet, you can reach all kinds of music.

In my opinion internet is good, has more advantages than disadvantages, there are also, so I am against the movement that wants to close it and turn it into a television.

Gopegui Bethlehem is the last of the writers Mandarache 2011 Prize candidates, the others are David Monteagudo and Susana Fortes, and his visit is closing the cycle of meetings with the author, culminating in the democratic votes of this award during the first week of April when the winner will be revealed.

The author, who was accompanied by the Councillor for Youth, Ruth Collins, has not hesitated to submit to questions from students who have completed this morning, the hall of the auditorium, and then will decide who gets the Mandarache Award this year.
