The new social center of San Ginés help avoid reliance on the elders (08/02/2011)

The mayor and Social Policy Minister inaugurated the new center, which has claimed more than 152,000 euros, representing an increase of effort by the authorities to spare no resources in benefits for dependents, aid of currently benefiting 3,500 people in Cartagena

The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, accompanied by the Minister of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, and managing director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), Isabel Sola, inaugurated this morning the new social club for people over the Barrio de San Ginés.

The center, which is located on College Street next to Soller Antonio Arévalo, has 300 square meters, can accommodate 200 people and it will develop cultural and leisure activities aimed at adults.

The new clubhouse is a collaborative effort between the City of Cartagena and the Autonomous Community, and has had a budget of 152,953 euros.

The new center will amount to a total of 17 social facilities that currently exist in Cartagena and the surrounding area including four newly built centers in Isla Plana, soreness, and Santa Ana Albujón

The launch of the Senior Citizens Club meets an old demand of the residents of this neighborhood to improve their quality of life as the mayor explained, and praised that are an active club, such as to keep alive the neighborhood.

In Cartagena more than 3,500 people currently benefit from economic and welfare benefits, informed the mayor and highlighted the joint efforts of regional and local administrations in these times of austerity, to spare no resources for people with dependency.

The Director of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, recalled that the Region of Murcia was one of the first Spanish communities in implementing the provisions of Act Dependencies to, since in November 2007 began providing the first aid and currently is above the national average in the granting of such social benefits.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN THE NEW HEADQUARTERS

The new headquarters units Senior Club of San Ginés also will serve the residents of the Eixample and can enjoy a library, a multipurpose room and a large patio garden.

Among the objectives of the club, as a meeting place, appears to provide users with educational activities, recreational and cultural and leisure workshops and free time to improve their quality of life.

Also offer programs for healthy aging, as well as support and technical and legal mediation.

In fact, throughout the year, we organize various cultural trips, gerontogimnasia programs and physical therapy, memory training and medical examinations.

The Senior Club of San Ginés, formed in April 1996, currently has about 300 members, a figure that, with these new facilities could double.
