The mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, has seized this morning as president of the Commonwealth Tourism del Mar Menor, a position that access on a rotating basis for one year the mayors of the municipalities that are part of this organization created in September 1992 such as Cartagena, Los Alcazares, San Javier and San Pedro del Pinatar.
The event took place in the city of San Pedro del Pinatar, whose mayor, José García Ruiz, is the outgoing president of the commonwealth.
The mayor stressed that the Commonwealth is an exemplary where consensus has always precedence over differences.
Pilar Barreiro has made special mention The infrastructures and equipment that have been built in recent years, as well as projects currently under development. We have the advantage of being part of a region with good infrastructure, well-connected and ongoing projects that will strengthen our position as regards national and international tourism, the mayor noted.
Pilar Barreiro has referred to tourism as a sector that, despite the crisis, has seen a growth in 2010.
Still, today announced the need to optimize resources and find ways to promote the Mar Menor and premium tourist destination, and sharpen the wit to do more with less.
Commonwealth Tourism del Mar Menor is a public entity fully dedicated to the promotion and development of the Mar Menor and its region, thus direct its efforts toward investments in tourism promotion and make infrastructure improvements related to the sea that it will help in turn, to offer better service to tourists.
