Activities to commemorate the International Day Against Violence Against Women (22/11/2010)

During this month, and more specifically the November 25 Women's council of the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women.

Therefore, Rosario Councilwoman Montero has announced this morning the program of activities with which sequiere draw attention to this social scourge that affects women, while demanding justice and protection for victims.

Thus, from day 2 until 14 November, the Cultural Center Luzzy Ramón Alonso has offered an exhibition of 30 photographs entitled Reflections on Gender Violence Education and Prevention.

These works were performed by students of the Higher Artistic Photography of Design School of Murcia, through four different sections: the inequality as a source of violence, violence as a result of inequality, education and prevention violence and equality as a solution to violence.

On the other hand, from 4 until 25 November will give a course on gender identity and feelings of worth.

The course takes place on Thursday from 9.30 am to 12:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room of the council of Women, attended by 15 women.

In addition, the councilor added that during the entire month of November, the team of experts on gender violence Care Center for Victims of Domestic Violence of the City of Cartagena (CAVI) perform, through Women's Associations in their respective local forums to address the most important and significant, and are viewed films related to the topic.

So far this year, the CAVI has treated 201 new cases of women maltaratadas, a figure slightly higher than in 2009, which were 183.

The last scheduled activity, added Councillor, will be held on November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women, which will read a manifesto on the door of the new Administration Building on Calle San Miguel, the 12.00 hours.

That same day, and while it has added Montero, will be held the same reading with different celebrations in different secondary schools of the city, in collaboration with the Department of Youth, aware of the importance of awareness and eradicate violence demonstration cuallquier between genres from the earliest ages.

We must not forget, the councilor stressed that this day is commemorated by a group of women held the first meeting in Latin America, the Caribbean and in Bogota in July 1981.

They were the first to propose this date to activism against gender violence.
