What can young people to mass unemployment? (03/11/2010)

Area Youth to the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena come every day, dozens of young people seeking advice and help. The daily experience shows that the main problem of most concern to young people living in Cartagena, national and foreigners, is unemployment, a fact that they share with young Europeans.

Eurostat, the European Statistical Office, has five million young Europeans looking for work, one in five, an increase of over one million since 2008.

The percentage of youth unemployment in the European bloc is already above 13%, representing an improvement of seven points since 2008.

In this context, the idea of organizing a National Youth Policy and Youth Heads, on 27th November 2010, at the premises of the Youth Resource Center of the City of Cartagena, bringing together 30 young people from different nationalities together with policy makers and people youth employability expert advisors, which address the youth unemployment situation in Europe, and also presented as a constructive way to analyze the current situation.

It seeks to foster a forum for reflection, dialogue and exchange of perspectives and experiences where participants identify what measures can facilitate a suitable addition to the labor market by sector and young people can move directly to those responsible local politicians linked to the areas of youth, employment and education.

This National Youth Policy and Youth Officers will be held by a grant from the Youth in Action and the financing of the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena. It also has the support of organizations like the Council Youth of Spain, the Agency of Local Development and Employment and Europe Direct.

In addition to the Youth Meeting scheduled for 27 November, there will be a stage before and after the event:

As of October 20 has begun a period of on-line discussion where everyone can participate at the youth unemployment issue will arouse interest.

This blog contains both the details of the meeting as a discussion forum.

The forum's objective is to implement a participatory and dynamic that facilitates the active integration of all participants, and the concept of learning by doing, where the protagonists are young people themselves.

This preparation also focuses on research and information. The young people will find blog studies and documents that will inform and enable them to know both the Youth in Action Programme, including the situation of youth unemployment in Europe and policies governments implement to alleviate it.

Also be familiar with the European Youth in Motion initiative to collect the package established by the European Union in response to the current crisis.

In the post-meeting until March 2, participants will receive via email the document with the summary of the findings and will have a period of time for completion of amendments to either modify or enrich the final document to be discussed through the blog and finally participate in the adoption and development of the final document of Best Practices.

There will be many channels through which it will disseminate the results of the 2010 Youth Encounter.

This meeting comes within a European, so the results will have international exposure.

From August this year until August 2011 marks the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF YOUTH. UN has authorized for the 2010 Youth Encounter is part of the calendar of events of this celebration and, therefore, to present the findings of this project on its website.

Europe Direct European Information Centre, also works in both the organization and the dissemination of best practice.

Youth in Action Programme provides several virtual portals which give visibility to the results, in addition to the Youth Space website of the Department of Youth and the City of Cartagena.

For its part, also the Youth Council of Spain (CJE) is to ensure the transfer of the benefits of integrating Youth Encounter in the process of structured dialogue promoted by the European Commission in collaboration with the European Youth Forum.

For this, the CJE will incorporate the findings of the next consultation meeting on Youth Employment to be held in the first half of 2011 and which aims to gather opinions and proposals of the young people needed to design a European strategy.
