The UPCT analyzes the influence of Christian pilgrimages throughout history (22/10/2010)

The Technical University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the Diocese of Cartagena have organized a course that will analyze the influence of Christian pilgrimages throughout history and its impact on cultural exchange.

The course will be held in the auditorium of the Museum of the Roman Theatre in Cartagena, starting next Monday, October 25 and end on 23 November.

All lectures will take place from eight o'clock in the afternoon.

The aim of this course, consisting of nine lectures by experts from universities in several parts of Spain, German Archaeological Institute, Mérida and Catalonia and religious institutions, is to address the phenomenon of pilgrimage and its influence in the country with particular reference to the existing historical and archaeological documentation.

The speakers discussed different aspects of the pilgrimage as a trade in relics arose as a need to treasure memories of transcendent experience gained, the traditions that arose around the centers of pilgrimage and the origins of travel of pilgrims.

The course "The Archaeology of Christianity in the West (III) and monumentalization pilgrimage in the Christian city" is directed by the director of the Museo del Teatro Romano de Cartagena, Elena Ruiz Valdez, the director of the Theological Institute of Murcia San Fulgencio, Cristóbal Jiménez Sevilla , and postdoctoral fellow Cajamurcia Foundation, Jaime Sánchez Vizcaíno.

Students who enroll will receive the equivalent of a free elective credit.
