Youth Meeting to combat unemployment (20/10/2010)

The Youth Encounter Project, which will address strategies to combat youth unemployment in Europe, was presented this morning by the Councillor for Youth, Ruth Maria Collado.

Area Youth to the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena come every day, dozens of young people seeking advice and help.

Daily experience shows, the councilor explained that the main problem of most concern to young people living in Cartagena, both domestic and foreign, is unemployment, a fact that they share with young Europeans.

Eurostat, the European Statistical Office, has informed the mayor, has five million young Europeans seeking employment (ie, one in five), representing an increase of over a million since 2008.

This means that the percentage of youth unemployment in the European bloc is already above 13%, representing an improvement of seven points since 2008.

In this context, Collins stressed the idea of organizing a National Youth Policy and Youth Heads, on 27th November 2010, at the premises of the Youth Resource Center of the City of Cartagena, which will bring together 30 young of different nationalities, together with policy makers and young people employability expert advisors, which address the youth unemployment situation in Europe, and also presented as a constructive way to analyze the current situation.

With this meeting seeks to promote a forum for reflection, dialogue and exchange of perspectives and experiences, where participants identify what measures can facilitate a suitable addition to the labor market by sector and young people can move so directly to local elected officials linked to the areas of youth, employment and education.

Councillor especially emphasized that this meeting is conducted by a grant from the Youth in Action and the financing of the Youth Council of the City of Cartagena.

Also, he added, it has the support of organizations like the Youth Council of Spain, the Agency of Local Development and Employment and Europe Direct.

DEBATE ON-LINE

In addition to the Youth Meeting scheduled for November 27, we can identify an earlier stage and after the event.

As of October 20 will begin a period of on-line discussion where everyone can participate at the youth unemployment issue will arouse interest.

To make this possible has created a blog, with the collaboration of the Department of New Technologies of the City Council, which can be accessed at the web address: www.cartagena.es/encuentrojoven2010

This blog contains both the details of the meeting as a discussion forum.

The forum's objective is to implement a participatory and dynamic that facilitates the active integration of all participants, and the concept of "learning by doing", where the protagonists are young people themselves.

This preparation also focuses on research and information.

In the blog young people will find studies and documents that will inform and enable them to know both the Youth in Action Programme, including the situation of youth unemployment in Europe and governments implement policies to alleviate it.

Also be familiar with the European initiative "Youth Movement" which picks up the package of measures established by the European Union in response to the current crisis.

In the post-meeting until March 2, participants will receive via email the document with the summary of the findings and will have a period of time for completion of amendments to either modify or enrich the final document to be discussed through the blog and finally participate in the adoption and development of the final document of Best Practices.

There will be many channels through which we will disseminate the results of the 2010 Youth Encounter.

This meeting comes within a European, so the results will have international exposure.
