The Municipal Archaeological Museum on mythology and history to children and adults (28/09/2010)

The Municipal Archaeological Museum Enrique Escudero de Castro has announced its program of educational activities for the 2010/2011 academic year, with outstanding new features aimed at younger children and the elderly, as noted by the Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero.

The program, developed by educational and outreach department, presents for the first time a workshop of mythology, called Jupiter, Juno, Pluto and other gods of the heap, which is aimed at students of 3 rd and 4 th grade, educational levels which had not been prepared in advance and any workshop which aims to introduce children to the Greco-Roman mythology through workshops, games and hobbies.

The other novelty is the scheduling of two workshops aimed specifically at older people, which has enjoyed the cooperation of the Municipal Institute of Social Services, in order to bring them to the culture, archeology and history.

One of these workshops is called

The Voice of the Stones and seeks to highlight the value that the entries (inscriptions on hard support, such as funeral or memorial tablets) are for Archaeology and History.

The other shop is called Meet Carthage, introducing them to life in Ancient Rome: Foundation of a city, buildings that comprise, customs and activities developed in it.

Are displayed virtual recreations of Imperial Carthage, made from the interpretation of archaeological evidence and stories of ancient authors.

The shop uses theoretical explanations, models, audiovisuals and a tour of the Museum's permanent collection.

In these two workshops open to people belonging to the municipality Senior Clubs and seniors interested non-members.

Alongside these activities the program includes other workshops repeated in other years as the Vox Petrae and Life in a Roman city and the school tour guided didactic activity, due to the great acceptance that have between schools within and outside the district.

More S THAN 6,000 PARTICIPANTS THE PAST YEAR

Councillor for Culture, Rosario Montero, said that last year participated in 71 educational workshops and 1,938 school groups.

As for school visits, the number of groups visiting the permanent collection, both the municipality and outside it, was 208 and the number of students of 4,160.

Montero also stressed that during 2009-2010, there has been a notable increase of participants in both workshops and on visits outside the county, even from other regions.

Councillor for this increase was due largely to the launch of the website providing the information, reservation and application of online activities and the continuous incorporation of new educational proposals of interest.
