Underway the municipal seagulls control campaign in Cartagena (26/04/2018)

The municipal campaign to control the population of seagulls, which has been underway since the beginning of April, will run until June 30 in order to prevent the proliferation of these birds in Cartagena, for which the methodology of previous years will be repeated.

This action consists in the descaste at egg level, puncturing them, without destruction of the nests, so that the gulls continue incubating some eggs that will not be viable.

In the 2017 campaign, 276 points were reviewed throughout the city of Cartagena and surrounding areas, 10 more than the previous year, in which 120 nests were found with a total of 308 out-of-date eggs, which prevented the proliferation of 308 seagulls patiamarillas, which is typical of the area, with this initiative.

In addition, a total of 66 citizen notices were received due to the presence of seagulls that were attended without incident.

The new campaign is aimed, once again, towards the collaboration of citizens, so that all those residents of Cartagena who locate a gull nest, either on its roof or in a neighboring building, can communicate it to the town hall and this way you can identify the critical areas and act accordingly.

The way to contact is by phone 968 12 89 57 or by email: controlplagas@ayto-cartagena.es

Remember that the City of Cartagena works throughout the year in the control and eradication of all types of pests.

RECOMMENDATIONS

For a more effective control of the bird population, citizens must continue to follow a series of important recommendations:

Do not throw food in parks, squares or gardens.

Efficient waste collection in school environment (schools, institutes, ...).

Do not feed them.

Close the containers of RSU well after use, especially those near to markets of supply and large commercial or leisure areas.

Where nests have been observed in previous years, put obstacles, whenever possible, so that they can not re-nest, or simply observe during the campaign period the new nest formation, in order to alert the annual campaign services, and ensure a more prompt and effective action.

Although it is a persistent bird, in general the seagulls usually remember traumatic situations experienced previously, in order to try to avoid living them again.
