Citizens demand the urgent creation of the Commission, the Technical Office and the updating of the Accessibility Plan (16/04/2018)

- "Without the update of the Comprehensive Accessibility Plan (orange amendment 2017 budgets), and without the creation of the Commission and the OTA, nothing is going to be done to really reduce the restrictions and obstacles that our neighbors face every day in the Historic District, in the neighborhoods and in the councils, "the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, has warned

On the occasion of the information published today by the newspaper La Verdad in which it is reported that the new accessibility ordinance has revealed the errors and needs that exist in Cartagena, the local spokesman for Citizens has informed that "the execution of our 2017 amendment to complete and update the Comprehensive Accessibility Plan of the Municipality of Cartagena, which was drawn up in 2010, an essential requirement to undertake the actions in a prioritized, orderly and viable manner ".

According to Manuel Padín, "from Ciudadanos we fear that the delay to take forward the ordinance has caused the City to delay the constitution of the Accessibility Commission and the Technical Office until the end of July, if this is true and we take into account that these are the bodies that must develop the technical and strategic functions necessary for the implementation of municipal actions, we expect a long journey through the desert of architectural barriers in this municipality.

For the above, Citizens will demand that we work from now on to implement both the Commission and the Technical Office "we have to buy time and obviously, to be able to carry out this strategy of actions, the first thing that is necessary is to execute our amendment : the updating of the Accessibility Plan to the needs of Cartagena 2017, "explained Manuel Padín who says that" we said at the time that it is necessary to have a current study of the accessibility status in the municipality, the last one is eight years ago, because only then, we can really undertake, in a viable, planned and priority, the relevant actions in accordance with the ordinance in the most unfavorable spaces, and not patching the city, or leaving half-way jobs as is doing now. "

"Without this update of the Accessibility Plan, nothing is going to be done to really reduce the main restrictions and obstacles that many members of our citizens face every day", concluded Manuel Padín who clarifies that "we are not saying that the entire municipality adapts in a few months to the new ordinance, there is not enough liquidity for that, we are saying that we want an updated plan of priorities, and a road map to act as soon as possible in the least friendly spaces with reduced mobility " .

Citizens has highlighted the problems of accessibility in the Historic District, Barrio Peral, San Felix or La Concepcion, "but we must understand that it is a problem that extends to almost all our neighborhoods and councils."
