Citizens fear that the new presidency of the Port Authority is not up to the challenges that are on the horizon (26/03/2018)

- The orange formation reminds us that the Cartagena ZAL project promoted by Cs in the Assembly with its amendments has to advance in 2018 with the relocation of the Franco Warehouse, and there the Port Authority is a key act.

- The orange formation doubts the suitability of Joaquin Segado and considers that in his appointment has prevailed the electoral strategy of the PP, its internal reserves, and a misunderstood party loyalty

Ciudadanos considers that the challenges that the Port Authority of Cartagena has before it require a presidency that knows in depth each of the aspects in which the Port of Cartagena operates.

For the regional spokesman for Citizens, Miguel Sanchez, "the PP has again made a mistake by not assessing the qualification or preparation at the time of making a key appointment for the economic development of the region but has prioritized its electoral strategy, its reserves internal and a misunderstood partisan loyalty. "

Sanchez has wished luck to the new president of the Port Authority, Joaquín Segado, because "we are afraid that he will need it due to the little experience he has in the management for a position as eminently technical as this one".

The regional spokesman for Cs does not understand that "Mr. Segado has announced that he will remain president of the Cartagena PP, in our opinion, the presidency of the Port Authority requires an exclusive dedication and without distractions and we do not believe that it should be combined with any other activity".

For its part, the national deputy of the orange formation, Miguel Garaulet, believes that "the Port of Cartagena is and must continue to be the engine of development not only of the District of Cartagena but of the Autonomous Community, a development that must go intimately linked to the project that has driven Citizens from the Regional Assembly with its amendments: the Logistics Activities Zone of Cartagena ".

In addition, Garaulet considers it "absolutely necessary to have a connection with the future Mediterranean Corridor and the extension of the highway to Escombreras to further develop this industrial hub".

Escombreras Station

On the other hand, for Garaulet, "it is important to know the scope and timing of the 2.5 million euro investment that the Port Authority of Cartagena announced on the 16th for the Escombreras train station. "If there are no deadlines or calendar, this announcement will remain in little less than that, another empty ad." Garaulet considers that it is an essential work not only for the development of the Port of Cartagena, but also for the future of the Mediterranean Corridor, which would encounter a new bottleneck if this work does not take off ".

For this reason, the Group of Citizens in Congress has registered a battery of questions for the Government of Spain to make public the calendar of specific actions, with deadlines and disaggregated budget, for works on this railway line, necessary for the terminal that connects with the Escombreras docks between operations ".

For the orange deputy, "all these connections will influence the tourism sector, for which we do not rule out that the Port, besides being a port of arrival of cruise ships, is also an exit, that is, Puerto Home, and for that it is necessary that arrive as soon as the AVE, have adequate hotel infrastructure and increase the cultural offer.

El Gorguel, Cs waiting for the Master Plan

Regarding the possibility of the Port expanding its capacity, the orange deputy explained that "until we have the Environmental Master Plan completed we can not have a really informed opinion to assess the project."

In the last meeting held with the former president of the Port Authority, Antonio Sevilla explained to the orange deputies the status of the environmental and administrative procedures that the project of the new dock of El Gorguel must still overcome, a work that could be budgeting close to 750 million euros, working with 1.5 million containers in its first phase and which could generate about 30,000 jobs, of which 3,000 will be direct.

Seville informed that they have the drafts for the compensatory measures that have to do with the Place of Community Importance (SCI) land and the Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) and that work is being done to obtain the marine SCI, which is more complex.

With the approval of these three drafts, the Environmental Sustainability Report (ISA) of the project will be completed, after which the Council of Ministers will be in a position to declare it a Project of National Interest and be sent to Brussels, which must approve the entire project. both the ISA and the Master Plan.

Finally, the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, said that "Cartagena is proud to have, for the moment, the fourth most important port in Spain, and the first in bulk traffic, but we need the new president of the Port Authority is up to this challenge, and that the central and regional governments are committed and confirm that their connection with the Mediterranean Corridor will be a fact, that the ZAL and therefore the transfer of the Franco Warehouse to the Industrial Estate of The Camachos will be a reality in 2018. "

Manuel Padín has announced that in a short time he will meet with the new president to analyze the main lines of action that he will promote.

"Citizens will continue to press, in the Assembly and in Congress, for Cartagena to stop being in the wagon of the strategic projects of the PP governments."
