Navantia takes to the Campus Chair of the UPCT its simulation classroom to train ship crews (15/03/2018)

This Friday will also be recreations of naval operations in the Bay of Sydney with an aircraft carrier, a frigate and a landing craft

Navantia has converted the Sebastian Feringán room of the Industrial School of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) into three command bridges of military vessels, recreating naval operations and simulating the control panels of an aircraft and amphibious transport vessel using touch screens , a F100 frigate and a landing craft.

The Navantis training classroom has been transferred to the UPCT on the occasion of the II Campus Chair of Business that the Polytechnic celebrates today.

The new product from the Navantia Platform and Navigation Control Systems Department will also be on display tomorrow morning at the former Marina Hospital.

"We have taken advantage of the advances in touch screens, in fact immersive and in graphic processing of the video game industry to create versatile virtual training classrooms", explains the alumnus of the Polytechnic and engineer in Navantia Mario Benito on this dual-use technology that comes of the digital leisure sector.

"The simulation requires knowledge in mathematics, graphic design and communication networks with the students of UPCT engineering," he adds, encouraging students to "discover their potential."

"The formation of ship crews at sea is very expensive and the current training centers have specific simulators for each boat, which leads to problems of space, maintenance and obsolescence," continues his teammate Juan Luis Muñoz.

"With Navantis we reproduce different control panels through tactical screens and we can interconnect different vessels, making it possible to carry out simulations of joint operations, even at a distance.

The practice can be carried out simultaneously from Ferrol, Cádiz and Cartagena ", exemplifies.

The Navantis simulator has especially interested the Australian navy, which wants to use it to train the crew of their landing craft and their amphibious ship, as well as for a fuel supply ship.

Hence, today's recreation takes place on the real stage of Sidney Bay.

Navantia has at the Polytechnic of Cartagena with the Chair Isaac Peral and collaborates with the UPCT in a project to locate crew by bluetooth.

In addition, dozens of students from the University carry out internships in the company's shipyards every year.
