Cartagena will pay homage to Isidoro Maiquez for the 200th anniversary of his death (13/03/2018)

The city of Cartagena will host during the coming months various events to commemorate the figure of Isidoro Máiquez on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his death.

Various theatrical and cultural associations have joined in the organization of the celebrations of the various ephemerides of this Cartagena actor.

These different acts will be happening, as reported Tuesday at a press conference by the Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, during 2018, 2019 and 2020. Next to him have been Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, chronicler and worker of the municipal archive;

and Jaime Cross, one of the organizers of the events.

On March 17, the first performance will take place on the occasion of the birth of Isidoro Máiquez.

It will take place at 11:00 am with a performance thanks to the Municipal School of Theater, remembering the figure of Máiquez under the sculpture located in the Plaza San Francisco.

On March 27, coinciding with Holy Week, the manifesto will be read for the first time on the occasion of Theater Day at the Roman Theater.

The Cartagena actor Eusebio Lázaro will participate, which has been successful in film and television.

Subsequently, on April 7 this World Theater Day will be celebrated and, among other activities, there will be a talk by César Oliva 'Máiquez and modernity in the theater'.

From the 9th to the 15th of April, the Isidoro Máiquez Amateur Theater Competition will continue, which, on the occasion of this anniversary, will have a special prize of a replica of the figure of the actor honored.

In addition, on May 13 there will be a recreation of the inauguration of the statue of Isidoro Máiquez located in Plaza San Francisco.

The acts will begin at 12:00 and the tribute made to the actor when the sculpture of Máiquez was placed for the first time on May 2, 1927, will be faithfully imitated.

As explained by Luis Miguel Pérez Adán, this day there were various events such as a concert of Spanish music by the Marine Infantry Band, the speeches of the councilor and the mayor of the time, the sculptor of the work and an offering of flowers of children of the city.

In addition, the actor Ortiz de Zarate read a speech in honor of Isidoro Máiquez that will be read in its entirety on this occasion.

Finally, a parade was organized around the Plaza San Francisco.

NEW LOCATION OF SCULPTURE

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez, has also reported that the municipal government is studying, together with City Council technicians, the possibility of relocating the sculpture inside the square.

The councilman said that it will try to highlight as much as possible but must study both the budget to undertake this work and the technical aspects and considerations of municipal specialists.
