Leading companies seek at the Polytechnic talent and knowledge to travel to Industry 4.0 (06/03/2018)

"We have lost the fear that the University investigates in the Company," explain petrochemical, energy, biotechnology and agro-food firms

"The UPCT is our reserve of knowledge and talent", summarized this morning Roberto Font Ruiz, head of R & D of Biometric Vox, a startup that develops voice authentication technologies, in the second edition of 'Breakfast with transfer' with which the Seneca Foundation announces the potential of applied research, development and innovation offered by the Polytechnic of Cartagena to the business sector.

Companies from the petrochemical, energy and agri-food sector have coincided in highlighting the advantages obtained by collaborating with the UPCT in technology transfer projects and incorporating their graduates through internships, scholarships in its Chair Network or through industrial doctorates such as the one that has begun at ILBOC María Elena Fernández García to optimize production and to be able to predict qualities and quantities through robotic learning techniques.

"It is an excellent opportunity to find the knowledge that will help us adapt to the new technologies of Industry 4.0, such as virtualization, digitalization, artificial intelligence, maching learning or big data," said Eduardo Romero Palazón, director General of ILBOC, participated by Repsol and SK and has in Escombreras the largest new generation lubricants plant in Europe.

"We have lost the fear that the University investigates in our company," abounded.

"I love being able to put into practice what I research," said the doctoral candidate, one of the three researchers in the Region who are carrying out the new industrial doctorate promoted by the Seneca Foundation, as explained by its director, Antonio González.

"What differentiates us from the most innovative countries is the incorporation of doctors to companies," said the general director of Universities, Juan Monzó, during the meeting held at the Casino de Murcia.

"Transversal skills, entrepreneurship and marketing of patents must be given to doctors, as is already done by the International Doctoral School of the UPCT," he added.

An outstanding example of this is the Soltec solar panel company from Murcia, with five doctors on staff.

"We were able to overcome the crisis in the sector, due to legislative changes and the silicon market, thanks to the fact that we invested in research and development engineers to create our own product," recalled Francisco Fernández Luque, doctor from the UPCT and design engineer. electronic company, which has gone from having 30 employees in 2013 to 750 today.

"The University gives us a broader knowledge of the state of the art," he said.

"When they have a traffic jam, they call their teachers," said José Antonio Villarejo Mañas, the director of the thesis.

It also has the technological knowledge of the Polytechnic energy consultancy Konery, the president of AJE Ginés Ángel García López.

"One third of the members of the company are graduates of the UPCT and we want to join their Chairs Network to find those who know the most about the new technological revolution," he says.

"The new generation of talent has to be incorporated into companies to adapt them to the 4.0 industry," continued the representative of the young entrepreneurs.

Already present in the Network of Chairs of the UPCT, Marnys, has shown during breakfast, through the mouth of its director, Roberto Martínez Moeckel, the international impact of research and scientific congress that have been made with the UPCT, and the talent that have signed, as the last extraordinary prize of the School of Agronomists.

"The close contact with companies, especially through the Network of Chairs, enhances the employability of our students, which is already close to 100%, and also favors the initiation of research careers," said the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz.

In the previous edition of the breakfast with transfer they told about their collaboration with the Polytechnic, other relevant companies such as Hidrogea, ATOSA, Frumecar and Neosystem.
