MC: "The Jenny raft: another environmental outbreak of the PP" (06/03/2018)

These days it has been known that the Cartagena Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the Ministry of the Environment of the CARM to report on the proceedings and surveillance in the sealing of the Los Blancos mining site, as well as to identify the persons responsible in the Ministry "of these actions, their monitoring and reporting compliance."

All this related to the situation of the toxic waste of the raft Jenny that has been 10 years out in the open.

The president of MC, Jesús Giménez, stressed that "this is another example of the risks to the health of the citizens generated by the policies of the PP, and that both have harmed the Mar Menor, taking it to the current situation."

Giménez has stated that "if this weekend we called attention to the abandonment of the administrations in the Sierra de Cartagena, and the damage of their lack of recovery, now the judicial investigations point to the PP directly."

The leader of the training Cartagena recalled that "between 2006 and 2011, years in which these toxic waste were not sealed, held positions of responsibility in environmental matters in the Ministry, the current president of the PP, Joaquin Segado, as well as the spokesman of the People's Municipal Group, Francisco Espejo In addition, the investigations, according to what has been published, point out that all the regulations have been breached and put the population at risk and, of course, the Mar Menor ".

Jesús Giménez has denounced that "these are the politicians who walk today talking about regeneration and recovery of the Mar Menor, when it is evident that, only without them and when the PP responds for their irresponsibility, it will be able to mitigate the damage and start offering a future to the citizens of this Autonomous Community ".

Finally, he concluded by stating that "in MC we remain convinced that the Mar Menor has a solution if the responsible administrations work and offer solutions." To achieve this goal, one of the pillars is the regeneration of the Sierra de Cartagena, obligating, where appropriate. , to the holders of mining concessions whose negative impact affects our health ".

Risk to the health of neighbors and the Environment

It should be remembered that the Office of the Public Prosecutor already considered years ago, in relation to the violation of any legal regulation on this type of deposits that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment was responsible for enforcing, that "there has been a very high risk of protected areas of the Natura 2000 Network, specifically Sites of Community Interest (SCI) close to the short, open spaces and islands of Mar Menor and Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila, by wind erosion of surface contaminated material ".

The Office of the Prosecutor also noted that "there has been a high risk of affecting the population of the San Ginés Strait."

Both for the Environment and for the population, "from a technical point of view, there has been a clear risk of very significant damage due to the situation of the outdoor deposit, unsealed, for ten years."
