More than 600 people participate in the vote to honor a scientist in the UPCT (08/02/2018)

The vote that yesterday opened the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) to choose the name of the scientist that will be recorded tomorrow on the facade of the R + D + i building of the Campus of the Wall on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science has registered in less than 24 hours more than 600 votes.

This is one of the four initiatives in which the UPCT turns tomorrow to give visibility to women technologists.

In the voting you can choose between four options: Hypatia of Alexandria, mathematician and astronomer of the fourth century;

Rosalind Franklin, chemistry and British crystallographer who revealed the double helix of DNA;

Lise Meitner, Austrian physicist who researched atomic theory and radioactivity, and Rita Levi-Montalcini, an Italian neurologist who discovered the first known growth factor.

Voting can be done through http://mujercientifica.upct.es until midnight.

The recording will be made this Friday at 11:30 and will have the assistance of the Minister of Culture, Noelia Arroyo.

The UPCT also participates this Friday in the seminar organized by Lyceum of Science of the Region of Murcia (Association of Women Scientists of the Region of Murcia) in the University Social Center of Espinardo, which will offer their testimony four doctorandas of the Polytechnic of Cartagena: Adela Ramos, Celia Gomez, Veronica Campos and Victoria Ruiz.

The Polytechnic will also be part of the scientific-technical carnival organized by the Hospitaller Classrooms in La Arrixaca tomorrow.

The professors Socorro García and María José Vicente, the vice-rector for Research, Beatriz Miguel, and the manager, Carmen Alcaraz, will explain the career of four relevant scientists to the children admitted to the hospital.

Two other UPCT women linked to science, Lola Ojados and María José Roca, of the SAIT (Service of Support for Technological Research), will present their vision of the situation of women in fields at a round table at the ARQUA tomorrow afternoon. scientists
