Francisco Calderón will ask the Socialist government to keep the bet, initiated by MC Cartagena, for a sustainable municipality (05/02/2018)

The MC Cartagena municipal group will present a motion in the Plenary to urge the local government to keep the bet initiated by the Cartagena training in favor of a sustainable municipality.

Thus, the person responsible for the Quality of Life of MC, Francisco Calderón, will propose measures such as the launching, during 2018, of an informative and awareness-raising campaign for citizens, through collectives, neighborhood associations and neighborhood councils, with the objective of achieving participation and involvement in this change of models to improve the quality of life and mitigate the effects of climate change.

In the same way, the motion will propose the drafting and preparation, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), of the Municipal Adaptation Plan to climate change as the objective of the Chair of Quality of Life and Environment.

The work of MC in the Government

Calderón recalled that the effects of climate change in our municipal area are undeniable, "so being aware of this situation, we have promoted a Chair of Quality of Life and Environment with the UPCT, with a line of research on this matter" .

Continuing with the work on environmental protection, on 14 and 15 of last 2017, municipal technicians from the area of Sustainable Development and Transparency, led by María José Soler, participated in the Life Adaptate program 'Common Methodology for the Development of Plans Action for Climate and Sustainable Energy in European municipalities.

The aforementioned program aims to develop the reinforced mechanisms of effective measures of adaptation to climate change for local authorities and support entities.

Pilot project for adaptation to climate change

In this regard, the mayor of MC has explained that "Cartagena has proposed a pilot project for adaptation to climate change through which it is intended to integrate green areas into the city center, configuring a node in this pioneering experience, through a Green corridor with trees with shade and pavements.

Also, Francisco Calderón stressed that this commitment of MC for a more sustainable municipality "clashes with the socialist policy of the stage, a lot of asphalt and tile."

For this, "just check," he continued, "the few works that Decentralization has driven to have examples of what should not be done to mitigate the effects of climate change, and that will require its modification as soon as someone responsible at the head of the Town hall".

Finally, the councilor has invited the local government "to continue with the commitment that was made for sustainable urban development, our reforestation campaigns or the creation of green infrastructure for the use and enjoyment of citizenship."
