MC Cartagena asks Transparencia de la CARM to report on the destination of the twenty-two new cancer diagnostic and treatment teams (24/01/2018)

Today, the president of MC Cartagena, Jesus Giménez, has formalized the requirement of the training he presides over to request the Ministry of Transparency and Participation of the CARM to specify the fate of the twenty-two teams of diagnosis and treatment of cancer acquired after the donation performed by the Amancio Ortega Foundation to the Murcian Health Service (SMS), under the Ministry of Health.

In the request for information submitted by MC, the reports issued by the professionals of the SMS in which the allocation of the donation is justified, as well as the total inventory of the devices of this type that the regional body has at 31 December 2017 and its breakdown by hospitals, specifying the age of each one.

Jesús Giménez has notified the concern of the training Cartagena to know "the detail of the application of the donation of twenty-two teams, of which only one has been assigned to the University Hospital Santa Maria del Rosell."

"This is a matter of special sensitivity, since, as is known, in the Region up to seven thousand cases of cancer are diagnosed each year," the MC Cartagena leader continued.

"The distribution and distribution of these devices is a matter of the first order in terms of the need to have this information, something that MC has been claiming and that the Autonomous Community has neglected to do," added Giménez.

The president of MC has based the request on the fact that, apparently, "the municipality of Cartagena seems to have assigned only one device, specifically the Rosell, which is striking because it is a total of twenty-two teams for the Region "

The letter refers to the seven thousand new cases of cancer that are detected in the Region annually, noting the need to make available to citizens "the specific reasons for the distribution and the motivation of it, as a device (the one intended for Cartagena) out of a total of twenty-two, it is apparently neither proportional nor justified. "

Collaboration agreement

The collaboration agreement signed by the Amancio Ortega Foundation and CARM, published on July 8, 2017 by the Official Gazette of the Region, would allow the acquisition and renewal of twenty-two state-of-the-art equipment with which to improve diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

An increase in the technological endowment is contemplated through radiotherapy equipment (linear accelerators);

magnetic resonances;

TAC's;

mammographs;

a brachytherapy team;

another intraoperative radiotherapy, and a surgical microscope.
