The Community has provided psychological care to 61 minors exposed to gender violence in Cartagena (23/01/2018)

The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, signed today with the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, an agreement to provide the Specialized Psychological Care Service for Children Exposed to Gender Violence (Sapmex), municipality in which They have been taken care of, since it was launched in an itinerant way two years ago, to 61 minors.

Its objective is to provide psychological support to the sons and daughters of women victims of gender violence in the Region of Murcia, who have been exposed or have suffered directly from these situations of violence, thus guaranteeing their right to a life free of violence.

Since it was launched in 2009, a total of 951 minors have been treated, 187 of them were new cases registered last year.

Counselor Tomás Violante stressed that "this resource allows the comprehensive approach to the needs of women and those children under their care, giving psychological support to the entire family unit in a specialized manner and ensuring that this traumatic situation does not have sequels in the future of minors. "

The agreement signed today also aims to train the professionals of the Care Center for women victims of gender violence, CAVI, so that they are able to identify the needs of the minor children of the victims.

The Sapmex was lent in the city of Murcia, although since 2016 it had expanded in an itinerant way to the municipalities of Cartagena, Lorca, Yecla, Totana, Jumilla, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cieza, Bullas, Los Alcázares and Santomera.

Recently, in December 2017, the itinerant service has been extended to four more municipalities: Alcantarilla, Mazarrón, Ceutí and Águilas, so that currently the service is provided in an itinerant way to a total of 15 municipalities.

Since it was launched, 61 children have been treated in Cartagena, 31 of them new cases registered from January to December 2017. "This service is provided previous favorable assessment of one of the CAVI, so there must be previously a judicial resolution that allows this intervention with minors.Coordination between the different services and institutions is key to guarantee the protection and recovery of minors, "said Tomás Violante.

In addition, in the past year the Community provided training to 90 professionals of the CAVI Network in order to improve comprehensive care for both mothers and children who are victims of gender violence.

Likewise, training actions are being developed for professionals in the child and adolescent mental health area of ​​the Murciano Health Service to improve the coordinated management of cases.

The psychological care service for minors exposed to gender violence is provided through the Quiero Crecer association and is financed with 80,000 euros by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality, through the Integral Assistance Fund for victims of violence of genre.

Women's care

Last year, the General Directorate for Women and Equal Opportunities allocated 128,394 euros to women in Cartagena, 96,300 euros in the fight against gender violence and 32,000 euros in conciliation matters.

The CAVI of Cartagena last year provided 1,637 services to victims of gender violence, 249 new women, compared to 1,611 the previous year, in which 207 new women were served.

Psychological care for minors exposed to gender violence and attention at the family meeting point for women victims of gender violence are some of the pioneering measures at the national level, which were already taking place in the Region, and which the Autonomous Community has incorporated into the State Pact against Gender Violence.

Among the initiatives of this pact, which has come into force in January, also highlights a specific training plan in this area for professionals from different sectors, health and education, on how to intervene and detect cases.

Likewise, the Local Coordination Tables have been incorporated into the agreement, an instrument that sets out the criteria to unify the procedures of attention to women victims of violence and coordinate actions of the different professionals involved in all the municipalities.

"Currently there are 30 tables and we are especially proud of this initiative, as it is a resource that has been carried out in other communities as a success story," said the counselor.

The Community will allocate a total of 2.4 million euros in 2018 to the prevention of gender violence and the care of victims.

Of the total, 240,000 euros are to implement measures of the regional pact against gender violence, whose last draft the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities in collaboration with all political groups represented in the Regional Assembly.
