The mayor highlights the involvement of students in the improvement of their centers through the Participatory Budgets (22/01/2018)

Students of the CEIP Virgen del Carmen and IES San Isidoro de los Dolores took stock on Monday, January 22, of the pilot experience of Participatory Budgeting, for which both centers received 10,000 and 15,000 euros, respectively, to carry out actions in its facilities.

This event, which took place in the Reception Room of the Town Hall, was attended by the councilor of the area of ​​citizen participation, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, who highlighted the success of the project and the great work that the students have carried out.

In the case of the CEIP Virgen del Carmen, the councilor has underlined the solidarity with which the students have acted, since of the total budget of 10,000 euros that had been allocated to this center, 1,000 have gone to the children's area.

Castejón explained how the older students prepared special ballots for the youngest of the school with colors and drawings so that the children could choose without difficulties.

Thanks to this, the children's area of ​​the CEIP Virgen del Carmen has two more seesaws.

The elementary students were able to choose between a 12 square meters stage with ramp, 4 digital whiteboards and a stage of 28 square meters with stairs to allocate the remaining 9,000 euros.

The most chosen option and that has finally been carried out is the biggest scenario.

As regards the IES of Los Dolores, 11 proposals were presented, of which 8 have been carried out, such as, for example, the renovation of sports equipment, the placement of benches, tables and litter bins in the courtyard, improvement of the means computers, placement of fans in the auditorium, a portable stage with a public address system, a school material bank and the improvement of library furniture.

The mayor and students have also recognized the work of the technician of the area of ​​Decentralization of the City Council, Rosa Muñoz, who has been meeting with students throughout the process and who according to the council has been "the heart and soul so that the project was a success ".
