The mayor presents the new Ruta Cofrade in FITUR (19/01/2018)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied by the elder brothers of the Cofradías del Socorro, Manuel Martínez Guillén;

California, Juan Carlos de la Cerra;

Marraja, Francisco Pagán;

and of the Risen One, Bernardo Simó, presented this morning at the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (FITUR 2018) the new Cofrade Route, which takes a tour of the most emblematic places of the Holy Week in Cartagena.

The main objective of the Cofrade Route is to provide the opportunity for tourists who visit the municipality at other times of the year to know more about the Cartagena Passion Week.

"We want to promote our Holy Week throughout the year and tourists can know, through the promotional brochures and our tourism portal, the oldest religious, festive and social manifestation of the municipality, touring the most emblematic spaces through which they spend the processions, "said the mayor.

Ana Belén Castejón recalled that the Cartagena processions are the first in Spain to take to the streets.

"But we are not only pioneers for that.

We are unique for our order and rigor, which is not repeated in any other passionate parade in the country, and for the floral decoration of the cartouches of our thrones.

Throughout the year, our city preserves the scenarios and urban landscapes in which our processions take place and keeps its enormous patrimonial and artistic wealth, which thanks to this route can be visited all year round ", he pointed out.

Castejón has been accompanied by the Councilor for Tourism, Carmen Martín del Amor, the mayor of Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, and the president of the Board of Brotherhoods, Manuel Martínez Guillén, who thanked the City of Cartagena for its constant commitment to the promotion and has highlighted the importance of tourists being able to "get to know Semana Santa through this route and return to enjoy it in all its splendor".

Martínez Guillén has emphasized the effort they make every year "to get the processions to the street, putting in it both work and love, which has made our Holy Week a very important engine of the economy of the municipality and has leveled us the way to achieve the declaration of International Tourist Interest ".
