The city's toy collection campaign is once again a success story (27/12/2017)

The courtyard of the Administrative Building of the City of Cartagena on San Miguel Street has hosted this Wednesday the closing ceremony of the campaign 'Toys' solidarity collection of toys for this Christmas, driven by the Department of Social Services and Social Mediation with TeleCartagena .

The Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Marine Infantry Commander Ginés Rodríguez, the First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Youth, Ricardo Segado, the Councilor for Citizen Participation and Good Government, Juan Pedro Torralba, the Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, the Councilor for Transparency and Sustainable Development, María José Soler, the Councilor for Finance, Isabel García, the Councilor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martín del Amor, and the mayor of the municipal government team José López have attended this event together with representatives of all collaborating entities.

In this edition of the solidarity campaign, the families of around 1,300 children in the municipality have requested toys, 500 less than last year, which constitutes a significant decrease in the number of children who are in a situation of need, reason why the first mayor has been "happy."

Once the collection is completed, and before counting the donated gifts, it is estimated that all the children of the families that have taken part in this solidarity initiative will have a toy this Christmas.

Ana Belén Castejón has confessed to be satisfied that one more year "there is no child or girl in Cartagena who is left without his dream of Reyes, without a toy".

The mayor has transmitted his "sincere gratitude" for his collaboration to the 53 volunteers of the Municipal Volunteer Program who have participated in this campaign, and who are more than last year, and to the more than 40 entities that have adhered to it as well as the media that have given it, and especially the citizens of Cartagena.

"Cartagena has again been up to the circumstances and as mayor I can not help but continue to thank each and every one of those who have had to do in this campaign," said Castejón.

This Thursday 28 and Friday 29 will proceed to classify toys by age with the help of volunteers of the campaign, who are helping throughout the process, then give them to the different entities that later will be responsible for distributing them.

In this sense it is worth noting that the entities send a list to the Department of Social Services in which the toys they need are listed, and from there the classification and distribution is made to them, which are responsible for delivering them to families .

One of the outstanding contributions has been that of the Navy, which has contributed since 2012, and this year has collected some 700 gifts as well as an economic contribution that translates into more toys.

"It does not suppose effort for us and in addition it is done in a very pleasant way", has explained on behalf of the military establishment the commander of Marine Infantry Ginés Rodríguez.
