Cartagena will celebrate New Year's Eve a day before (21/12/2017)

The Illustrated Pre-Grapes begin to be a consolidated tradition in Cartagena.

On the night of December 30, starting at 11:30 p.m., an anticipated New Year's Eve will be held at the Plaza del Rey in Cartagena, where the sound of the Arsenal clock will give the chimes to bid farewell to 2017.

The Councilor for Youth of the City of Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, has announced this morning all the details of this Christmas event, along with the secretary of Hostecar, Juan Carlos La Costa Lopez and Josefa Muñoz, the driving force of the idea of this event.

The event has been held in this place for two years and is coordinated by the Department of Culture, Heritage and Youth.

The event has more followers every year, since of the 300 people who gathered to bid farewell to 2015, 2,000 gathered to do the same with 2016. In this edition they hope to surpass that figure.

On this third occasion, all Cartagena and visitors will be summoned to bid farewell to the year in advance, in a festive atmosphere in which participants will be given bags of cotillion, entertained with the music of the Youth Association Drums 'Quillo' and by the Cartagena Music Group 1990.

To this festive atmosphere are added some of the restaurants in the Plaza del Rey, which have created Christmas menus for the occasion.

An initiative to which next year hotel establishments of Hostecar will be incorporated.

The association has promoted and supported the dissemination of these Pre Uvas.

Ricardo Segado, pointed out that in this way, "with a view of the Arsenal, the festival will be mixed with history and we will say goodbye to the era in which the construction of this majestic building was completed".

THE ARSENAL CLOCK

The watch of the Arsenal was the work of the watchmaker José Rodríguez Losada, one of the most prestigious in the British capital, who also wrote the Puerta del Sol clock, and began to beat in 1866.

With its installation in the Arsenal, it corresponded to one of the projects of the engineer Tomás Tallerie so that the tower had a visible and public clock.

It is a clock that has a pyramidal construction, like English watches, and its spheres were manufactured in Arsenal itself.

The former watchmaker of the Arsenal, who died falling from the tower, will be paid homage with a bouquet of flowers in this celebration of the pre-grapes.
