Before it was framed within the Fitur program |

The Cartagena Congress Office, which will become part of the Cartagena Puerto de Culturas municipal society with the new year, will participate with its own stand in the first edition of the Business Tourism Expo, the bussiness travel's most important event for the gathering of congresses, which will be held on May 21 and 22, 2018 in Ifema, in Madrid, and in which more than 5,000 professional visitors of the sector are expected.

This was explained to the media on Tuesday by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and Cartagena Port of Cultures manager, Agustina Martínez, after the meeting held with some of the partners that had the Office of Congress and agencies and companies that have been invited for the first time.

This event was held every year within the Fitur program, but this is the first time it is organized separately.

The first mayor has advanced that has already scheduled a significant number of appointments with new additions to the new Office of Congresses of Cartagena and that it will start from a greater coordination with the Auditorium and Palacio de Congresos El Batel.

"I am not willing to waste a municipal infrastructure," said Castejón.

"I have no doubt that it will translate into more conferences," he added.

Agustina Martínez has expressed the will to "join all the associates to help the congresses take place in Cartagena and that everyone benefits" from them.

"We want to make a promotion both nationally and internationally through all specialized marketing channels," he said, while verbalizing the intention to work closely with El Batel and all partners.

The manager of Cartagena Port of Cultures has commented that it will attend "each and every one of the fairs that are being made in this specialized sector", mainly at international fairs.

"International tourism is very important for us," he assured.

"We will also work on offering the best projects on sacred tourism so that the Region of Murcia is very clear that it has to invest in Cartagena in tourism," the mayor said in reference to the new and "exciting" stage that faces the entity.

On the other hand, Martínez pointed out that at the fairs they are detecting that there are synergies that can be exploited through commercial visits made from Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.

As well as this, he also pointed out that the entities specialized in holding congresses are looking for emerging destinations, beyond the cities in which they always organize this type of event.

LIQUIDATION AND INTEGRATION IN CARTAGENA PORT OF CULTURES

The Office of Congresses will be dissolved on December 31 and, following the administrative procedure, will begin to operate at the beginning of the year as part of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas.

It should be pointed out that the Foundation will disappear but the Office will continue in an integrated process in this municipal society.

Thus, it will be directed by the manager of Cartagena Port of Cultures, Agustina Martinez, and the team of the municipal society, of which Ana Belén Castejón has highlighted the management capacity while reminding that this exchange responds to "a request from the sector "and that feels" satisfied with the decision made "in this sense, since it is a sufficiently supported by its management of the city's tourism offer.

Also, the mayor has confirmed that the new Office of Congresses of Cartagena will continue to receive the same subsidy of 70,000 euros from the City Council that was granted before being integrated into Cartagena Port of Cultures, in order not to economically stifle this last, and that will continue to work normally.

"We come to show Cartagena, the Region and the world that we have a great chance of attracting more congresses and that it also turns into more tourists," said the mayor, who believes that "the sector wants more tourists that generate a greater impact in the local economy and that in the end everything can result in more employment and more economic movement in the municipality ".

CAPTURE MORE CONGRESS TOURISTS

The mayor intends that in 2018 and especially in 2019 the numbers of 2017 can be improved, in which a total of 92 events were celebrated, which reported 10,528 tourists.

"I think that is better than last year, where we had fewer conferences but we had more tourists," Castejón said in relation to the 67 2016 congresses attended by 15,954 people.

Of all the conventions held in 2017, 23 were international, while in 2016 they were 13.

For the months of April, May and June 2018, eight congresses are being closed.

Agustina Martínez has advocated for "Cartagena to benefit" from the organization of these events "and have the place it deserves in this sector".
