Social Services allocates 113,100 euros to the associations of older people in the municipality (15/12/2017)

The City of Cartagena, through the Department of Social Services and Social Mediation, will allocate a total of 113,100 euros to associations and clubs of the municipality.

This amount will be divided into a game of 63,100 euros corresponding to the subsidies contemplated in the collaboration agreements with the 38 senior clubs and with the Federation of Associations and Centers for Older Persons of Cartagena and Region, and another of 50,000 euros for the carrying out other types of activities.

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has delivered these agreements on Friday accompanied by the Councilor for Decentralization, Juan Pedro Torralba, the Councilor for Quality of Life, Francisco Calderón, and the Councilor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Carmen Martín of Love, in an act that also counted with the presence of the president of the Federation, María Beteta.

The first mayor has used the moment to remind the audience that "the City of Cartagena is much closer to them than you can imagine."

He also stressed the fact that these clubs and associations "may have a budget from the Department of Social Services" so that the elderly "can continue working and enjoying their projects with enthusiasm."

The 63,100 euros of the collaboration agreements, which have been distributed between the aforementioned Federation of Associations and Centers for the Elderly of Cartagena and the Shire and the 38 elder clubs that have opted for the call for competitive grants, have as an objective to subsidize programs that promote the care and participation of the elderly in social and cultural life through associationism.

With this line of subsidies the Department of Social Services and Social Mediation aims to collaborate both in the maintenance of the premises of the clubs of elders (rent, electricity, water, cleaning .. etc.), As well as in the realization of socio-cultural activities promoted by its partners.

Apart from this agreement, the Department of Social Services will allocate another item that amounts to 50,000 euros, aimed at carrying out activities aimed at strengthening the association and promote socio-cultural promotion of this group, such as gerontogimnasia, memory training programs, diverse workshops, cultural weeks, carnival, coexistence between clubs, training courses, volunteering and participation, etcetera.

All these actions, as well as others aimed at older people, are part of a global program carried out by different professionals who carry out a direct follow-up with each of the clubs, providing them with advice and technical support in the development of their activities, as well as in the operation and management of the association.

Ana Belén Castejón has highlighted "the great work" that older people do in their families.

"Many families in our municipality, unfortunately, continue to have a bad time, and it is our elders who are helping us in our daily lives," the mayor said, referring to "those domestic economies that do not go as well as they should" or to the help that grandparents provide by helping to reconcile women's work with family life, among other issues, what he considers "invaluable and precious work."

Castejón also congratulated all the senior clubs on Christmas and thanked them for their solidarity and collaboration and participation in the multitude of activities organized every year at Christmas, in Residences, Seniors' Fair, Day Centers and Schools as performances of the rondallas, the storytellers, the castañeras, as well as the delivery of food and toys, the donation of the money collected at the fair, visits to other centers and clubs and a long etcetera.

Also the mayor of Social Services and Social Mediation has addressed a few words to attendees, who said they are "updated people, full of motivation, concerns and much to teach" and in which he also congratulated the Christmas holidays.

To the elderly people present at the event has explained that one of the priorities of the council that directs is to offer quality resources that are of interest and that meet their expectations.

"The elderly are the engine of our society," he has appealed.

The performance of the Rondalla of the club of Elderly People of Alumbres has closed the event with his performance.
