The mayor demands agility in the process and a deadline for the Cartagena ZAL (14/12/2017)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, today called on the Regional Government for agility in the process of creating the Cartagena Logistics Activities Zone together with a specific deadline for its execution.

The demand of Castejón has occurred on the occasion of the presentation of the 'Study of Technical and Economic Viability for the Development of the Cartagena Intermodal Logistics Platform' which concludes that the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) is viable both technically and economically , so now begins a process in which different projects and studies will lay the foundations to start up this infrastructure.

The mayor has warned that he will "continue to demand the Regional Government a term," since he has stated, "the City of Cartagena expects agility in the process" for this project, which is a "great hope" for the municipality , can be active as soon as possible.

"We must put a deadline that can be met so that the business fabric is not discouraged," he said.

The first mayor said that the implementation of the Logistics Activities Zone "is going to translate into more employment in Cartagena, better communication, an impact on the local economy of the municipality and also as regards tourism."

For his part, Pedro Rivera, has ratified the "commitment of the Regional Government" with Cartagena.

"This is a project in which the Regional Government believes", he assured, while reminding that it requires a public-private collaboration of entrepreneurs and interadministrative.

In this regard, he stressed that it has been vital to have business support.

"This infrastructure will be fundamental for the development of Cartagena and its region and, by extension, the Region of Murcia," said the counselor.

This has been one of the most relevant results of the meeting of the Bureau of the ZAL of Cartagena, which was attended by the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM), Fernando López Miras, the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, the President of the CARM, Pedro Rivera, the Minister of Universities, Business and Research of the CARM, Juan Hernández, the President of the Port Authority, Antonio Sevilla, the President of the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena (COEC), Pedro Pablo Hernández, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Miguel Martínez, among other personalities.

During the meeting, the conclusions of the 'Technical and Economic Viability Study for the Development of the Intermodal Logistics Platform of Cartagena' were presented to the members of the Bureau, which determined that there is a very important level of interest in the companies of the Comarca. of Cartagena to settle in the ZAL.

According to Pedro Rivera, some 600 companies have been consulted, of which more than a hundred are planning to settle there.

TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC VIABILITY

"The ZAL is technically and economically viable," said the Minister of the Presidency and Development, who also explained that according to the research made the ideal place to place it is the current Los Camachos Polygon, since the land belongs to a single owner, the State Society for the Promotion and Equipment of the Land (SEPES), as well as its road connection infrastructures, thanks to its good communication with the AP7, and its location allows the railway connection, in addition to the interest business and social, to which is added the urban qualification that allows the project to be undertaken.

PREPARATORY REPORTS

On the other hand, the details of the 'Report of the Port Authority of Cartagena on the European Aid granted for the' Studies of elimination of the bottlenecks that prevent the connection of Cartagena with the main network and the improvement of urban traffic have been revealed. "At the same time, the most immediate needs, projects and demands have been addressed.

In this aspect, the next phase will consist in the drafting of the different projects that have to be developed as a previous step to the effective start-up of the ZAL, such as the environmental, urban, rail and road connections documents.

All this will be carried out with European funding through the 'Connect Europe' mechanism, of which 1,400,000 euros are available, 50% paid by the European Community and the Regional Government and the Port Authority in the remaining half.

Now we are going to commission these projects.

PROPOSAL IN THREE PHASES

Likewise, the development proposal has been made through phases of the ZAL, in the short, medium and long term.

This will be produced in three sections: the first, destined for services, with the transfer of the free warehouse and the transport city of Cartagena;

the second, in relation to the logistics part;

and the third, of extension.
