Citizens ask the City Council and the regional government for their support to increase the national promotion of Carnival (04/12/2017)

- The local and regional administrations can and should do much to achieve this national media relevance, "either by organizing informative events that attract the interest of the media, allocating part of the investment reserved for institutional advertising in the City Council and in the Community or receiving and applying the advice of the Association of Journalists of the Region of Murcia ", explained the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín

Cartagena, Monday, December 4.

Citizens ask for the support of the City of Cartagena and the regional government for the Cartagena Carnival to be declared of National Tourist Interest.

The Municipal Group of Citizens in Cartagena recalled that in the regular plenary session of April 2016 the orange formation achieved a plenary agreement to meet one of the last requirements that this party lacked to be declared of national interest, the support of the Corporation municipal to that recognition.

After that agreement, in February 2017 the Regional Assembly unanimously approved a motion to urge the Governing Council to carry out the initiatives that are necessary to obtain the declaration.

The spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, explained that to obtain this recognition, the Community only has to write a report and attach promotional material for the party;

This application, which is open all year, is free and can be done electronically. "According to Citizens, the memory has already been written by the Carnival Federation of Cartagena and the only requirement that remains is to comply with the 20 promotional activities in media In this sense, the Orange spokesman explained that the City Council and the regional government can do a lot of their part to achieve this national media relevance, "either by organizing informative events that attract the interest of the media, allocating part of the investment reserved for institutional advertising in the City Council and in the Community or receiving the advice of the Association of Journalists of the Region of Murcia. "The spokesman for Citizens announced that he expects to meet shortly with the president of the Federation, Carmen Sánchez to transfer these ideas to you.

For Manuel Padín "the obtaining of this declaration will give new impetus to this festival, which has already become a pole of important tourist attraction and which, like other celebrations, contributes to boost the economy of the city and the Region".

Carnival parties have a deep popular roots in Cartagena.

Its origin dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century, although it is from 1981 when they receive a special strength, being currently one of the most important in the regional holiday cycle.

During its celebration there are parades, dances, fancy dress contests and chirigotas that every year increase the participation in them of Cartagena and visitors.

Therefore, more than twenty years ago they were declared of Regional Tourist Interest.

According to the orange training spokesman, "the work of the Carnival Federation of Cartagena has magnified these festivals in recent years, transcending our local boundaries to make it a regional and national reference." Given this reality, both the City Council and the Autonomous Community have to bet decidedly for this event, and support so that they achieve the necessary promotional repercussion so that it obtains what it deserves, the declaration of National Tourist Interest ", has explained Manuel Padín.
