UPCT student simulates quadrocopters in virtual reality on the La Manga golf course (04/12/2017)

The student of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Andrés Guasp Alburquerque has completed the Master in Industrial Engineering with virtual reality simulation of the operation of a quadrocopters manned on a golf course.

The aerial vehicle has been modeled and programmed by the student, so that the piloting experience is real and feels in first person using the platform of immersive virtual reality that the UPCT has in the Center of Development and Technological Innovation of Fuente Álamo .

The work, led by researchers from the group of new security devices in machines Lola Ojados and Isidro Ibarra, has developed the virtual environment of a hole in the La Manga golf course, which can be flown with pre-established routes or by free flight in the that the pilot can control the speed, height, direction and inclination of the quadrocopters to avoid trees and land on established points outside the street of play.

"The adaptation of the environment for the reproduction of the created scene is a practical example of utility for a company that considers the purchase of a quadrocopter," says Ojados.

"The work demonstrates the potential usefulness of this type of vehicle as a complement or possible substitute for traditional vehicles currently used," continues Ibarra.

"The virtual recreation is also a striking advertising tool and enables the training of the pilots and crew of the quadrocopters", highlights the author of the work.

"In Dubai they are going to start using quadrocopters as air taxis and a North American golf course used and aerial vehicles as an alternative to buggies," he adds.
