- Neighborhood concern for the location of almost a hundred homes ten meters from the Terratest factory

Cartagena, Friday, December 1.

The regional deputy of Citizens in the Regional Assembly, Luis Fernandez, and the spokesman of the Municipal Group, Manuel Padín have met with the representatives of La Vaguada, Los Popos and San José Obrero-Los Patojos.

The meeting was attended by Luis Fernández, president, Andrés Bernabé, vice president, and Ramón Pagán, secretary of the Association of Neighbors (AAVV) of Los Popos, the president of the AAVV of San José Obrero-Los Patojos, Arturo García, and Vicente Carrillo, neighborhood president of La Vaguada.

Among the issues discussed during the meeting were the demands to improve the accessibility of Cartagena in the west and the residents' concern for housing that is a few meters from the Terratest factory, which apparently uses a derivative in its daily activity of oil that neighbors consider "toxic".

West access

One of the historical claims of the inhabitants of this area is the construction of a roundabout on the RM-332 from the Viña del Mar street at the height of Los Patojos and thus unload the dense traffic of the Vargas Ponce street, but the Viña street del Mar still does not have direct access to the N-332.

Other demands are 500 meters from the Roundabout of Cuatro Caminos where the asphalt is in very poor condition, sunken, fractured, with road markings almost erased, without guardrails and where lighting is scarce.

This is the beginning of E-22 that serves to enter the city from Canteras and La Vaguada and also connects with El Portús or Galifa.

On the other hand, the neighborhood representatives warn of the danger of going on foot because the sidewalks are narrow, there are streetlights blocking the way, and forces to walk along the ditch of the roundabout of Cuatro Caminos to reach Peroniño Street.

They also consider the crossing between Avenida de la Española and Avenida José Luis Meseguer very dangerous since it is, in the opinion of the neighbors, "in very bad conditions with many accidents".

Those who want to go from La Vaguada to the west, have no choice but to go through that intersection, and therefore poses a significant risk to both people and road safety.

Both the regional deputy and the local spokesman for Citizens have committed to study the situation to find possibilities to rescue a project, which was already drafted and budgeted by the Community in 2009, to adapt the section of the N-332 as it passes through. these populations until arriving at Sebastián Feringán, and to analyze the opportunity to reserve an economic game for the next regional budgets.

The spokesman for Citizens, Manuel Padín, pointed out that several administrations are involved here, as neighbors have informed us that the Community excused itself by saying that the City Council had not done its job, which was to expropriate the land where the works were to be developed, but at the same time, it is also true that the regional government has not even started the first phase, "we have to carefully analyze this cross of reproaches and work to satisfy once and for all the demands of the neighbors of the western zone".

The neighbors have also regretted that no one has solved the situation when they are raining torrentially.

Homes around Terratest

Another topic discussed during the meeting was the location of some houses about ten meters from a beam factory, Terratest.

The Neighborhood Association does not understand how it has been possible to build almost a hundred houses so close.

According to the neighbors, this factory uses iron molds for their daily work and that at the time of carrying out the operations of '' demolding '' they use a product derived from the oil that, in the opinion of the secretary of the AAVV of Los Popos, Ramón Pagán "is toxic".

The representatives of Citizens assured that they will investigate this matter and the issue of the opening and environmental licenses of the factory, "we want to contrast the information, to have truthful and primary information before making any decision", has explained the local spokesman of Cs, Manuel Padín.
