Juan Diego stars as Una gata on a hot zinc roof at the Nuevo Teatro Circo in Cartagena (22/11/2017)

The actor Juan Diego heads the cast of the play 'A cat on a roof of hot zinc', which will be performed at the Nuevo Teatro Circo in Cartagena at 9:30 pm on Thursday, November 23.

the work is scheduled by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena.

The original text, by Tennessee Williams, is an intense family drama, conveyed in a sincere, deep and full of that sense of humor that makes the audience laugh in profoundly dramatic moments.

Many viewers have in mind the film by Richard Brooks, starring Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor.

But the original work of Williams deserves a new revision, in the form of a play, to show more hidden facets and influence current issues such as family, passion, illness, ambition, addiction, love and, above all, , the heartbreak.

Tickets, at the price of 24 and 20 euros, can be purchased both at the box office of Cartagena theater and on the web www.nuevoteatrocirco.com

This version of 'A cat on a roof of hot zinc' seeks to move the viewer, talk about universal and eternal conflicts such as death, lying, sex, repression, homosexuality, ambition, frustrations and everything that happens before a great crisis within the family nucleus.

The work is interpreted by Juan Diego, Andreas Muñoz, Begoña Maestre, Alicia Sánchez, Marta Molina and José Luis Patiño.

In the opinion of the director of the work, Amelia Ochandiano, "it is a tough and romantic, with a prose able to make us fly but that keeps us tied to reality, a contemporary family drama full of sincerity, depth, poetry and sense of humor, because Williams was a romantic poet of the theater and achieved with this masterpiece, to get excited and surprised about equal parts ".

The work is developed when the grandfather is preparing a birthday party in the brand new farm that he shares with his wife for four decades.

He is a sick man, but he keeps hoping to buy eternal life.

Their two children, with their respective women, have gone to the family home to celebrate the birthday and their apparently recovered health.

Brick is the youngest son, stuck to a bottle of whiskey for a few months and despising his wife Maggie.

Gooper, the eldest of the children, is also with his wife Mae and his six offspring, making merits to take over the possible heritage of the patriarch.

Maggie, the cat in the midst of all, is a beautiful and anxious daughter-in-law, ready to scratch anyone who dares to take away what life can offer her.

Life has never been too generous with her, but now it gives her an opportunity to hold on with sharp nails.

A brilliant and potent text that runs through a stifling summer afternoon.

Thomas Lanier Williams, known as Tennessee Williams, was born in 1911 in Columbus.

Today it is considered a classic of contemporary theater.

He is the author of such emblematic works as' The crystal zoo ',' A tram called desire ',' Summer and smoke ',' The tattooed rose ',' The cat on the roof of hot zinc ',' Suddenly the last summer ',' Sweet bird of youth 'and' The night of the iguana '.

From the 70s, many of his works are taken to the cinema with great success.

The collaboration with director Elia Kazan was one of the most productive unions of the twentieth century within the Hollywood film industry.
