The streets of the city were filled again this Sunday with four thousand popular runners, 900 of them, children, to dispute the XVI Artillery Cross.

The popular race, open to both civilian and military personnel, is organized by the Cross Artillery Sports Association in collaboration with the Antiaircraft Artillery Regiment No. 73 and the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena.

The categories, in this sixteenth edition, did not vary with respect to past competitions.

As usual, it was divided into different tests according to the distance to cover, the age and the categories of the participants.

In the Race of the Lighthouse, with a route of 14 kilometers, and in its masculine category, Iván Hernández prevailed, (45 minutes and 1 second), followed by Raúl Guevara and Juan Ramón García.

In the women's category the podium went to Wafiya Benali, (51 minutes and 26 seconds).

The second and third place, respectively, went to María Isabel Pelegrín and Beatriz Ríos.

In the 6-kilometer race, the Urban Cross, the winner was Alberto González, (19 minutes and 56 seconds), Mateo Pesquer and Christie Dale, entered the finish line in second and third place.

The Urban Cross also had its champion, Sandra García-Pagán, managed to enter the first, (23 minutes and 48 seconds), which was followed by María Garnés (second) and Elena Alcantud (third).

The edition of this year also had the Canicross, of 5 kilometers, in which 50 dogs accompanied by their owners participated;

the Mile, for young people between 10 and 14 years old;

and the Quarter Mile, for children under 9 years of age.

As in the previous edition, two teams of the Joëlette chair took off, with which people with reduced mobility can face any type of test in different terrains, giving visibility to the solidarity project Zancadas on wheels that aims to achieve some these vehicles through contributions to the ASTUS association.

One hundred and eight trophies were awarded at the end of the race in a ceremony held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento in front of the Town Hall.

In addition, all participants opt for a raffle of more than six hundred gifts, most of them culinary: hams, wedges of cheese, beer ...
