Cartagena will save almost half a million euros with the new contract for the concession of El Batel (09/11/2017)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, announced on Thursday that the coffers of the Consistory will benefit from a saving of approximately 480,000 euros over the next five years with the revision of the contract maintained by the municipality with the UTE El Batel, which manages the Auditorium and Conference Center of the same name.

The report of the legal advice of the City Council that has been made after the first five years of the contract concludes that there is no breach of contract that is substantial to lead to the termination of the contract.

Based on this, the mayor has notified the representatives of the Temporary Union of Companies that El Batel manages that the municipal government "understands, therefore, that this procedure is finished" and now "it is necessary to work in cultural matters side by side "

With the agreement reached, at the proposal of the successful bidder, the Consistory will stop contributing 40,000 euros a year to the manager, a circumstance that has already been applied in 2017, until completing a reduction of 200,000 euros at the end of the five-year period.

This is in addition to the 280,000 euros that the City of Cartagena will receive more during the same period due to the rise in the IPC in the rent of the building.

In this way, the total savings will be 480,000 euros.

The City Council of Cartagena paid the UTE El Batel approximately 2,200,000 euros a year and now they will remain at 2,160,000;

At the same time, it received around 1,300,000 euros in rent for the building and now it will cost 1,356,000 euros.

COLLABORATION AGREEMENT WITH THE ADLE

Also, the mayor has also advanced some of the "interesting agreements for the municipality of Cartagena and also for the world of culture" that have been achieved or expected to be achieved shortly.

Among them is the cession of a venue in which to rehearse the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Cartagena.

In this same aspect of the negotiation, Ana Belén Castejón, has announced that she is studying the formula to promote an agreement with El Batel to start up various courses, which were already being explored by the Local Development and Employment Agency (ADLE), for to train new professionals in the world of performing arts in the field of cultural events such as production assistants, technical direction, sound and lighting technicians.

The councilor explained that in the next few days they will continue to move forward and work on that line in order to sign that agreement as soon as possible.

OPEN THE AUDITORY TO NEIGHBORHOODS, DIPUTATIONS AND TO NEIGHBORHOODS NEIGHBORS

On the other hand, the idea of Castejón is that the Auditorium and Conference Center is available to the cultural associations of the different neighborhoods and councils as well as the neighboring municipalities and the entire Campo de Cartagena region.

"The Batel has to be recognized as the infrastructure of the municipality of Cartagena in cultural matters that citizens feel as their own, that they can use it and that they can demand it having advantageous conditions," he specified.

The first mayor will notify this decision to the mayors of the neighboring town councils of the whole region so that they can hold their big events there, if they wish, and thus "make Cartagena bigger with the region and with the rest of the Region".

The mayor believes that El Batel "has to be open to all citizens of Cartagena" with a proposal "that will result in the very advantageous rental price" to local associations.

"We want to achieve that in the end El Batel is that cultural infrastructure that can take advantage of all the cultural and associative fabric of the municipality and especially making that nod to our neighborhoods and towns," he said.

INCREASE THE NUMBER OF FAIRS AND DAYS OF MUNICIPAL USE

Also, Ana Belén Castejón has asked to increase the number of fairs both nationally and especially at the international level and start working on the next that can be held in 2018 in order to "be a great revulsive also in the field of tourism" .

Another of the claims raised by Castejón is to increase the 50 days a year in which the City Council of Cartagena had the use of El Batel, since in addition, in many occasions, each event counted as double for the previous work of preparation.

"I have made it quite clear that we need many more days," he said.

The representative of the UTE El Batel, Luis Gutiérrez, who has appeared with the mayor, has confirmed that they will study all the proposals, which seem "very reasonable but demanding", and hope to "reach an agreement" in all these matters. through dialogue.

"Our aim is to put all the interest in that, in this process that has been opened, we can reach agreements for both parties satisfactory," he said.

AN INFRASTRUCTURE OF ALL AT AN AFFORDABLE COST

"We will continue to demand that it cost us as little as possible but not renouncing that reference in which we want to place El Batel, because it is a cultural infrastructure that we have and that it would be incomprehensible and not coherent not to use it", said the councilor, who is willing to continue "auditing, demanding and with transparent accountability" like today's.

"We are not going to throw away the opportunity to use this cultural infrastructure," he added.

"We want to use El Batel as affordable as possible for the municipal coffers, we want El Batel to be everyone's, accessible to all the cultural associations of the municipality, and we want El Batel to be the cultural reference point in local matter ", underlined Ana Belén Castejón, who has also highlighted the promotion and promotion of quality cultural proposals as one of the hallmarks of her government.
